A Call to Repentance
(Joel 1:13-20; Amos 5:4-15; Zephaniah 2:1-3)

1Now at the same time some were present, telling Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2And answering, He said to them, “Do you think that these Galileans were sinners beyond all the Galileans, because they have suffered such things? 3No, I say to you; but unless you repent, you will all perish likewise. 4Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: Do you think that these were debtors beyond all the men dwelling in Jerusalem? 5No, I say to you; but unless you repent, you will all perish likewise.”

The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree
(Isaiah 5:1-7)

6And He was speaking this parable: “A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit on it, and not did find any. 7And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Behold, throughout these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and do not find any. Therefore cut it down! Why even should it use up the ground?’

8And answering, he says to him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I shall dig around it, and put in manure, 9and if indeed it should bear fruit in the time, so be it. But if not, you will cut it down.’”

Jesus Heals a Woman on the Sabbath

10And He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbaths. 11And behold, a woman having a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and she was bent over and not able to lift herself up to the full. 12And having seen her, Jesus called her near and said to her, “Woman, you have been freed from your sickness.” 13And He laid the hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight and began to glorify God.

14And answering, the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, was saying to the crowd, “There are six days in which it behooves one to work. Therefore coming, be healed in these, and not on the day of the Sabbath.”

15Therefore the Lord answered him and said, “Hypocrites! Does not each one of you untie his ox or donkey from the stall on the Sabbath, and having led it away, give it to drink? 16And this, being a daughter of Abraham whom Satan has bound, behold, eighteen years, ought she not to be loosed from this bond on the day of the Sabbath?”

17And of Him saying these things, all those opposed to Him were ashamed; and the whole crowd was rejoicing at all the glorious things that were being done by Him.

The Parable of the Mustard Seed
(Matthew 13:31-32; Mark 4:30-34)

18And He was saying, “To what is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I liken it? 19It is like to a grain of mustard, which a man having taken, cast into his garden; and it grew and came into a tree, and the birds of the air encamped in its branches.”

The Parable of the Leaven
(Judges 20:18-23; 2 Samuel 2:12-32; 2 Chronicles 13:4-19; Matthew 13:33)

20And again He said, “To what shall I liken the kingdom of God? 21It is like to leaven, which a woman, having taken, hid in three measures of meal, until it all was leavened.”

The Narrow Door
(Matthew 7:13-14)

22And He was going through by towns and villages, teaching and making progress toward Jerusalem. 23And someone said to Him, “Lord, if those being saved are few?”

And He said to them, 24“Strive to enter in through the narrow door; for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in, and will not be able. 25From the time the master of the house shall have risen up and shall have shut the door, then you shall begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, open to us.’

And he answering, will say to you, ‘I do not know from where you are.’

26Then will you begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’

27And he will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know from where you are; depart from me, all you workers of unrighteousness.’

28There will be weeping and gnashing of the teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you are being cast out. 29And they will come from east and west, and from north and south, and will recline in the kingdom of God. 30And behold, there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last.”

Lament over Jerusalem
(Matthew 23:37-39)

31In the same hour certain Pharisees came near, saying to Him, “Go out and proceed from here, for Herod desires to kill You.”

32And He said to them, “Having gone, say to that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and I complete cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I am perfected.’ 33But it behooves Me to proceed today and tomorrow and the following day. For it is not possible for a prophet to perish outside of Jerusalem.

34Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killing the prophets, and stoning those having been sent to her, how often I have wanted to gather your children, the way that a hen gathers her brood under the wings, and you were not willing. 35Behold, your house is left to you. And I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say, ‘Blessed is the One coming in the name of the Lord.’a
