Temple Destruction Foretold
(Mark 13:1-9; Luke 21:5-9)

1And having gone forth from the temple, Jesus was going away, and His disciples came to Him to point out to Him the buildings of the temple. 2And answering, He said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, no not even a stone shall be left here upon a stone, which will not be thrown down.”

Signs of the End of the Age

3And as He was sitting upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him in private, saying, “Tell us, when these things will be? And what is the sign of Your coming, and the consummation of the age?”

4And Jesus answering, said to them, “Take heed, lest anyone mislead you. 5For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will mislead many. 6And you will begin to hear of wars and rumors of wars. Behold, do not be alarmed; for it is necessary to take place, but the end is not yet. 7For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8And all these are the beginning of birth pains.

Witnessing to All Nations
(Mark 13:10-13; Luke 21:10-19)

9Then will they deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all the nations on account of My name. 10And then many will fall away, and they will betray one another, and will hate one another; 11and many false prophets will arise, and will lead many astray.

12And because lawlessness is to be multiplied, the love of the many will grow cold. 13But the one having endured to the end, he will be saved.

14And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed in the whole earth, for a testimony to all the nations; and then the end will come.

The Abomination of Desolation
(Mark 13:14-23; Luke 21:20-24)

15Therefore when you shall see ‘the abomination of desolation,’a having been spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place—the one reading, let him understand— 16then those in Judea, let them flee to the mountains; 17the one on the housetop, do not let him come down to take anything out of his house; 18and the one in the field, do not let him return back to take his cloak.

19And woe to those having in womb, and to the ones nursing infants in those days! 20But pray that your flight might not be in winter, nor on a Sabbath. 21For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, and never shall be. 22And unless those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved; but because of the elect, those days will be shortened.

23Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or ‘Here,’ do not believe it. 24For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will give great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. 25Behold, I have foretold you.

The Return of the Son of Man
(Mark 13:24-27; Luke 21:25-28)

26Therefore if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go forth; or ‘Behold, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe. 27For just as the lightning comes forth from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28For wherever the carcass may be, there the vultures will be gathered.

29And immediately after the tribulation of those days:

‘The sun will be darkened,

and the moon will not give its light,

and the stars will fall from the sky,

and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.’b

30And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.c 31And He will send His angels with a great trumpet call, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from the ends of the heavens to the ends thereof.

The Lesson of the Fig Tree
(Mark 13:28-31; Luke 21:29-33)

32Now learn the parable of the fig tree: When its branch already may have become tender and it puts forth leaves, you know that the summer is near. 33So also you, when you see all these things, know that He isd near, at the doors. 34Truly I say to you that this generation will not have passed away until all these things shall have taken place. 35The heaven and the earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away.

Readiness at Any Hour
(Genesis 6:1-7; Mark 13:32-37; Luke 12:35-48)

36But concerning that day and hour, no one knows, not even the angels of the heavens, nor the Son,e except the Father only. 37For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38For as in those days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until that day Noah entered into the ark, 39and they were unaware until the flood came and took away all; so also will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40Then two will be in the field: one is taken, and one is left. 41Two women will be grinding at the mill: one is taken, and one is left.

42Therefore keep watch, for you do not know on what day your Lord comes. 43And know this, that if the master of the house had known in what time of night the thief comes, he would have watched and not have allowed his house to be broken into. 44Because of this, you also be ready, for the Son of Man comes in that hour you do not expect.

45Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has set over his household, to give to them the food in season? 46Blessed is that servant whom his master, having come, will find thus doing. 47Truly I say to you that he will set him over all of his possessing.

48But if that evil servant should say in his heart, ‘My master delays,’ 49and should begin to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and to drink with those being drunkards, 50the master of that servant will come in a day in which he does not expect, and in an hour which he is unaware, 51and will cut him in pieces, and will appoint his place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
