Loving Discipline and Knowledge
1 אֹהֵ֣ב (The one loving) מ֭וּסָר (discipline) אֹ֣הֵֽב (is loving) דָּ֑עַת (knowledge),
וְשֹׂנֵ֖א (and the one hating) תוֹכַ֣חַת (correction) בָּֽעַר׃ (is stupid).
2 ט֗וֹב (A good one) יָפִ֣יק (brings forth) רָ֭צוֹן (favor) מֵיְהוָ֑ה (from YHWH),
וְאִ֖ישׁ (and a man) מְזִמּ֣וֹת (of schemes) יַרְשִֽׁיעַ׃ (He will condemn).
3 לֹא־ (Not) יִכּ֣וֹן (is established) אָדָ֣ם (a man) בְּרֶ֑שַׁע (by wickedness),
וְשֹׁ֥רֶשׁ (and the root) צַ֝דִּיקִ֗ים (of the righteous) בַּל־ (not) יִמּֽוֹט׃ (shall be shaken).
4 אֵֽשֶׁת־ (A woman) חַ֭יִל (of virtue) עֲטֶ֣רֶת (is a crown to) בַּעְלָ֑הּ (her husband),
וּכְרָקָ֖ב (and like rottenness) בְּעַצְמוֹתָ֣יו (in his bones) מְבִישָֽׁה׃ (is the one causing shame).
5 מַחְשְׁב֣וֹת (The thoughts) צַדִּיקִ֣ים (of the righteous ones) מִשְׁפָּ֑ט (are justice);
תַּחְבֻּל֖וֹת (the counsels) רְשָׁעִ֣ים (of the wicked ones) מִרְמָֽה׃ (are for deceit).
6 דִּבְרֵ֣י (The words) רְשָׁעִ֣ים (of the wicked ones) אֱרָב־ (lie in wait) דָּ֑ם (for blood),
וּפִ֥י (and the mouth) יְ֝שָׁרִ֗ים (of the upright ones) יַצִּילֵֽם׃ (delivers them).
7 הָפ֣וֹךְ (Are overthrown) רְשָׁעִ֣ים (Wicked ones), וְאֵינָ֑ם (and they are no more),
וּבֵ֖ית (and the house) צַדִּיקִ֣ים (of the righteous ones) יַעֲמֹֽד׃ (shall stand).
8 לְֽפִי־ (According to the mouth) שִׂ֭כְלוֹ (of his insight) יְהֻלַּל־ (is praised) אִ֑ישׁ (a man),
וְנַעֲוֵה־ (and the one crooked) לֵ֝֗ב (of heart) יִהְיֶ֥ה (will be) לָבֽוּז׃ (for contempt).
9 ט֣וֹב (Better) נִ֭קְלֶה (to be lightly esteemed), וְעֶ֣בֶד (and a servant) ל֑וֹ (is unto him),
מִ֝מְּתַכַּבֵּ֗ד (than the one honoring himself) וַחֲסַר־ (and lacking) לָֽחֶם׃ (bread).
10 יוֹדֵ֣עַ (Regards) צַ֭דִּיק (a righteous one) נֶ֣פֶשׁ (the life) בְּהֶמְתּ֑וֹ (of his animal),
וְֽרַחֲמֵ֥י (and the mercies) רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים (of the wicked ones) אַכְזָרִֽי׃ (are cruel).
11 עֹבֵ֣ד (The one working) אַ֭דְמָתוֹ (his land) יִֽשְׂבַּֽע־ (is satisfied) לָ֑חֶם (with bread),
וּמְרַדֵּ֖ף (and the one pursuing) רֵיקִ֣ים (vanities) חֲסַר־ (is lacking) לֵֽב׃ (of heart).
12 חָמַ֣ד (Desires) רָ֭שָׁע (the wicked) מְצ֣וֹד (the net) רָעִ֑ים (of evildoers),
וְשֹׁ֖רֶשׁ (and the root) צַדִּיקִ֣ים (of the righteous ones) יִתֵּֽן׃ (will give).
13 בְּפֶ֣שַׁע (Is in the transgression) שְׂ֭פָתַיִם (of lips) מוֹקֵ֣שׁ (is the snare) רָ֑ע (of a wicked one),
וַיֵּצֵ֖א (and will come out) מִצָּרָ֣ה (from distress) צַדִּֽיק׃ (a righteous one).
14 מִפְּרִ֣י (From the fruit) פִי־ (of the mouth), אִ֭ישׁ (a man) יִשְׂבַּע־ (will be satisfied) ט֑וֹב (with good),
וּגְמ֥וּל (and the recompence) יְדֵי־ (of the hands) אָ֝דָ֗ם (of a man) יָשׁוּב (returns) לֽוֹ׃ (to him).
15 דֶּ֣רֶךְ (The way) אֱ֭וִיל (of a fool) יָשָׁ֣ר (is right) בְּעֵינָ֑יו (in his own eyes),
וְשֹׁמֵ֖עַ (and the one listening) לְעֵצָ֣ה (to counsel) חָכָֽם׃ (is wise).
16 אֱוִ֗יל (For the fool)— בַּ֭יּוֹם (in that very day) יִוָּדַ֣ע (is known) כַּעְס֑וֹ (his anger),
וְכֹסֶ֖ה (and covers) קָל֣וֹן (shame) עָרֽוּם׃ (the prudent one).
17 יָפִ֣יחַ (The one breathing forth) אֱ֭מוּנָה (truth) יַגִּ֣יד (declares) צֶ֑דֶק (righteousness),
וְעֵ֖ד (and a witness) שְׁקָרִ֣ים (of falsehoods), מִרְמָֽה׃ (deceit).
18 יֵ֣שׁ (There is) בּ֭וֹטֶה (one speaking rashly) כְּמַדְקְר֣וֹת (like the thrusts) חָ֑רֶב (of a sword),
וּלְשׁ֖וֹן (and the tongue) חֲכָמִ֣ים (of the wise ones) מַרְפֵּֽא׃ (is healing).
19 שְֽׂפַת־ (The lip) אֱ֭מֶת (of truth) תִּכּ֣וֹן (is established) לָעַ֑ד (forever),
וְעַד־ (and for) אַ֝רְגִּ֗יעָה (an instant) לְשׁ֣וֹן (the tongue) שָֽׁקֶר׃ (of deceit).
20 מִ֭רְמָה (Deception) בְּלֶב־ (is in the heart) חֹ֣רְשֵׁי (of those devising) רָ֑ע (evil),
וּֽלְיֹעֲצֵ֖י (and for those counseling) שָׁל֣וֹם (peace) שִׂמְחָֽה׃ (is joy).
21 לֹא־ (Not) יְאֻנֶּ֣ה (will meet) לַצַּדִּ֣יק (with the righteous one) כָּל־ (any) אָ֑וֶן (injury),
וּ֝רְשָׁעִ֗ים (and the wicked) מָ֣לְאוּ (are full) רָֽע׃ (of evil).
22 תּוֹעֲבַ֣ת (An abomination to) יְ֭הוָה (YHWH) שִׂפְתֵי־ (are lips) שָׁ֑קֶר (of falsehood),
וְעֹשֵׂ֖י (and those acting) אֱמוּנָ֣ה (in truth) רְצוֹנֽוֹ׃ (are His delight).
23 אָדָ֣ם (A man) עָ֭רוּם (prudent) כֹּ֣סֶה (is concealing) דָּ֑עַת (knowledge),
וְלֵ֥ב (and the heart) כְּ֝סִילִ֗ים (of stupid ones) יִקְרָ֥א (calls out) אִוֶּֽלֶת׃ (folly).
24 יַד־ (The hand) חָרוּצִ֥ים (of the diligent ones) תִּמְשׁ֑וֹל (will rule),
ו֝רְמִיָּ֗ה (and slothfulness) תִּהְיֶ֥ה (will be put) לָמַֽס׃ (to forced labor).
25 דְּאָגָ֣ה (Anxiety) בְלֶב־ (in the heart) אִ֣ישׁ (of man) יַשְׁחֶ֑נָּה (bends him down),
וְדָבָ֖ר (and a word) ט֣וֹב (good) יְשַׂמְּחֶֽנָּה׃ (gladdens it).
26 יָתֵ֣ר (Searches out) מֵרֵעֵ֣הוּ (from his neighbor) צַדִּ֑יק (a righteous one),
וְדֶ֖רֶךְ (and the way) רְשָׁעִ֣ים (of the wicked) תַּתְעֵֽם׃ (leads them astray).
27 לֹא־ (Not) יַחֲרֹ֣ךְ (does roast) רְמִיָּ֣ה (The slothful one) צֵיד֑וֹ (his game),
וְהוֹן־ (and the wealth) אָדָ֖ם (of a man) יָקָ֣ר (is precious) חָרֽוּץ׃ (for a diligent one).
28 בְּאֹֽרַח־ (In the path) צְדָקָ֥ה (of righteousness) חַיִּ֑ים (is life),
וְדֶ֖רֶךְ (and) נְתִיבָ֣ה (in its pathway) אַל־ (is no) מָֽוֶת׃ (death).
