David Fetches the Ark
(2 Samuel 6:1–4)

1And David counseled with the captains of the thousands and of the hundreds, with every leader. 2And David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it is good to you⁺ breaking forth from YHWH our God, let us send out to our brothers remaining in all the land of Israel, and with them to the priests and the Levites in their cities and their pasturelands, that they may gather together to us. 3And let us bring back the ark of our God to us, for we did not seek Him in the days of Saul.”

4And all the assembly said that they would do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people. 5And David gathered together all Israel from the Shihor in Egypt and as far as Lebo-Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.

6And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah (to Kiriath-jearim), which was was unto Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, YHWH, dwelling between the cherubim, where the Name is proclaimed. 7And they carried the ark of God on a new cart from the house of Abinadab. And Uzza and Ahio were driving the cart.

Uzzah Touches the Ark
(2 Samuel 6:5–11)

8And David and all Israel played before the face of God with all the might, with singing, and on harps, and on stringed instruments, and on tambourines, and on cymbals, and with the trumpets.

9And they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, and Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark, for the oxen had stumbled. 10And the anger of YHWH was kindled against Uzza, and He struck him upon that he stretched out his hand upon the ark, and he died there before the face of God.

11And it was displeasing to David because YHWH broke forth a breach upon Uzza; and he called that place Perez-uzzah to this day.

12And David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How can I bring to myself the ark of God?” 13And David would not move the ark with him into the City of David, and he stretched it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. 14And the ark of God remained with the house of Obed-edom in his house three months, and YHWH blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that was unto him.
