The Fool Says There Is No God
(Psalm 53:1–6; Isaiah 59:1–17; Romans 3:9–20)

1For the one directing. Of David.

1 The fool says in his heart,

“There is no God.”

They are corrupt; they have done abominable deeds;

there is no one doing good.

2YHWH looks down from the heavens

upon the sons of man,

to see, is there one understanding,

seeking God?

3All have turned aside,

together they have become corrupt;

there is no one doing good,

not even one.

4All those working iniquity, have they not know?

They devour my people they have eaten bread;

on YHWH they do not call.

5There they tremble with dread,

for God is in the generation of the righteous.

6The counsel of the poor you⁺ have shamed,

for YHWH is his place of refuge.

7Who gives from Zion the salvation of Israel?

In YHWH turning back the captivity of His people,

let Jacob rejoice; let Israel be glad!
