1Then the word of the LORD came to Jehu, the son of Hanani, about Baasha, 2“Since I exalted you from the dust, and made you prince over My people, Israel; and you have followed the ways of Jeroboam, and have caused My people, Israel, to sin, to provoke Me to anger with their sins, 3So I will take away the descendants of Baasha, and all the posterity of his house; and will make your house like the house of Jeroboam, son of Nebat. 4Any members of Baasha who die in the city the dogs shall eat; and any that die in the fields shall the birds of the air eat.”

5Now the rest of the acts of Baasha, and what he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 6So Baasha slept with his fathers, and was buried in Tirzah; and Elah, his son, reigned in his stead.

7And the word of the LORD also came through the prophet Jehu, son of Hanani, against Baasha, and his house (family), for all the evil that he did in the sight of the LORD, in provoking Him to anger by his deeds, acting like the house of Jeroboam; and because he killed him (Nadab).

8In the twenty-sixth year of Asa, king of Judah, Elah, son of Baasha, began his two year reign over Israel in Tirzah. 9And his servant, Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against him, when he was in Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, the steward of his house in Tirzah. 10And Zimri went in and struck and killed him, in the twenty-seventh year of Asa, king of Judah, and reigned in his stead. 11And when he began to reign, as soon as he ascended to his throne, he killed all the members of family of Baasha; he left him not one male, nor any of his relatives, or his friends. 12Thus did Zimri destroy all the family of Baasha, according to the word of the LORD, which He spoke against Baasha by Jehu, the prophet, 13For all the sins of Baasha, and the sins of Elah, his son, by which they sinned, and caused Israel to sin, in provoking the LORD God of Israel to anger with their vanities.

14Now the rest of the acts of Elah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

15In the twenty-seventh year of Asa, king of Judah, Zimri reigned seven days in Tirzah. And the people were engaged in an attack against Gibbethon, a town of the Philistines. 16And those who were so engaged heard, “Zimri has conspired, and also killed the king”; therefore, all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army, king of Israel that day in the camp. 17And Omri went up from Gibbethon, with all Israel, and besieged Tirzah. 18And when Zimri saw that the city was being taken, he went into the palace of the king's house, and burned the king's house down over him, and died, 19For his sins which he committed, doing evil in the sight of the LORD, in the same way that Jeroboam did, to cause Israel to sin.

20Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and his treason that he committed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

21Then were the people of Israel divided: half of the people followed Tibni, the son of Ginath, to make him king; and the other half followed Omri. 22But the people who followed Omri prevailed against those who followed Tibni, the son of Ginath; so Tibni was killed, and Omri reigned.

23In the thirty-first year of Asa, king of Judah, Omri began to reign over Israel, twelve years; six years he reigned in Tirzah. 24And he bought the hill Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver, and built a city on the hill, and called that city which he built, after the name of Shemer, the prior owner of the hill, “Samaria”. 25But Omri did evil in the eyes of the LORD, and did worse than all who were before him. 26For he walked in all the way of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, and his sins by which he caused Israel to sin, to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger with their vanities.

27Now the rest of the acts that Omri did, and his might that he showed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 28So Omri slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria; and Ahab, his son, reigned in his stead.

29And in the thirty-eighth year of Asa, king of Judah, Ahab, the son of Omri, began to reign over Israel; and Ahab reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years. 30And Ahab did evil in the sight of the LORD – worse than all who were before him. 31And, as if it had been trivial for him to commit the sins of Jeroboam, son of Nebat, he took as his wife Jezebel, the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him. 32And he set up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. 33And Ahab made an idol; and did more to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.

34In Ahab’s days Hiel, the Bethelite, rebuilt Jericho: he laid the foundation of it in (at the cost of) Abiram, his first-born, and set up the gates of it in (at the cost of) his youngest son, Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which He spoke by Joshua, the son of Nun (Joshua 5:26).
