2Please make room for us in your hearts. We have neither wronged, corrupted, nor defrauded (exploited) anyone. 3I do not say this to condemn you; for I have said before, that you have such a place in our hearts, that we would live or die with you. 4I have spoken frankly and boldly to you, because great is my confidence in you; I am encouraged, and exceedingly joyful, despite all our tribulation. 5For when we came into Macedonia, we had no rest, but we were harassed at every turn – conflicts on the outside, fears within. 6But God, who comforts those that are discouraged, comforted us by the arrival of Titus; 7And not just by his coming, but by the comfort you had given him, when he told us your earnest desire to see me, your deep sorrow, your ardent concern for me, so that I rejoiced more than ever. 8For though I caused you grief by my letter, I do not regret it, though for a while I did regret it; for I perceive that the same letter hurt you just for a season. 9But now I rejoice - not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance; for you were grieved in a godly manner (as God intended), and that you were not harmed by us in any way. 10For godly sorrow leads to repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regrets; but worldly sorrow brings death. 11Just see what this godly sorrow produced in you! Such earnestness, such concern to clear yourselves, such indignation, such godly fear, such longing to see me, such zeal, and readiness to punish wrong. You showed that you have done everything necessary to make things right. 12For my purpose when I wrote to you, was not about who had done the wrong, nor who had suffered wrong, but that you could see for yourselves our concern for you before God.

13In all this we were encouraged. In addition to our own encouragement, we were exceedingly joyed to see how happy Titus was, when his spirit was refreshed by all of you. 14For I have boasted to him about you, and you did not disappoint or embarrass me; but it was just as we said, everything proved true to Titus, even our boasting. 15And his affection toward you is even greater, as he remembers your obedience, how you received him with fear and trembling. 16I am glad that I can have complete confidence in you.
