2 Kings 24

1In Jehoiakim’s days Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, invaded the land, and Jehoiakim became his vassal (servant) for three years; and then he rebelled against him. 2And the LORD sent against Jehoiakim bands of the Chaldeans, Syrians, Moabites, and Ammonites against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD, which He spoke by His servants, the prophets. 3Surely these disasters came upon Judah at the commandment of the LORD, to remove them from His sight, because of the sins of Manasseh, and all that he did, 4And also for the innocent blood that he shed; for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the LORD would not pardon.

5Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 6So Jehoiakim slept with his fathers; and Jehoiachin, his son, reigned in his stead. 7And the king of Egypt came more out of his land; because the king of Babylon had taken all the land from the river of Egypt to the Euphrates River that had belonged to the king of Egypt.

8Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem for three months. His mother's name was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem. 9And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his father had done. 10At that time the officers of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came against Jerusalem, and besieged the city. 11And Nebuchadnezzar came against the city that his officers had besieged. 12And Jehoiachin, king of Judah, surrendered to the king of Babylon, he, his mother, his servants, his princes, and his officers; and the king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign. 13And Nebuchadnezzar carried out from there all the treasures of the temple of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon had made in the temple of the LORD, as the LORD had said. 14And he carried all away Jerusalem - its princes, men of valor, even ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths; no one remained, except the poorest sort of the people of the land. 15And he took Jehoiachin away to Babylon, along with the king's mother, his wives, his officers, and the mighty of the land, all these he took into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon. 16And all the men of might, even seven thousand, plus a thousand craftsmen and smiths, all capable of war, these king Nebuchadnezzar brought captive to Babylon. 17And he made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin’s uncle, king in his place, and changed his name to Zedekiah.

18Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother's name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. 19And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as Jehoiakim had done.

20Because of the anger of the LORD, all these events occurred in Jerusalem and Judah, until God had thrust them out from His presence, including Zedekiah’s rebellion against the king of Babylon.
