1And after this David struck the Philistines, and subdued them; and David took Metheg-ammah from the Philistines. 2And he struck Moab, and measured them with a line, making them lie on the ground in three lines: with two lines measured to be put to death, and one line to keep alive. And so those Moabites kept alive became David's servants, and brought gifts. 3David also defeated Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as David restored his border at the Euphrates River. 4And David captured from Hadadezer a thousand chariots, seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen; and David hamstrung all the chariot horses, except for a hundred reserved for his chariots. 5And when the Syrians of Damascus came to aid Hadadezer, David killed twenty-two thousand men of the Syrians. 6Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought gifts. And the LORD preserved David wherever he went. 7And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem. 8And from Betah, and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took very much bronze.

9When Toi, king of Hamath, heard that David had defeated all the army of Hadadezer, 10Toi sent Joram, his son, to king David, to greet him, and to bless him, because he had defeated Hadadezer; for Hadadezer had waged war with Toi. And Joram brought with him vessels of silver, of gold, and of bronze, 11Which King David also dedicated unto the LORD, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued: 12Of Syria, Moab, of Ammon, the Philistines, and of Amalek, as well as the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

13And David made a reputation for himself after he returned from killing eighteen thousand Syrians in the valley of salt. 14And he put garrisons throughout all Edom, and all the Edomites became David's servants. And the LORD preserved David wherever he went. 15And David reigned over all Israel; and executed justice and righteousness to all his people.

16And Joab, son of Zeruiah, was over the army; and Jehoshaphat, son of Ahilud, was recorder; 17And Zadok, son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech, son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Seraiah was the scribe; 18And Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites (special body-guards); and David's sons were chief managers.
