5When a man has recently taken a new wife, he shall not be sent out to war, nor shall he be charged with any other duty; but he shall be free at home for one year, and shall cheer up his wife whom he has taken.

6No man shall take either the lower or the upper millstone for a pledge (security); it would be taking a man's livelihood as a pledge.

7If a man is found stealing (kidnapping) any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and makes merchandise of him, or sells him; then that thief shall die; you shall purge evil from among you.

8Take heed regarding the plague of leprosy, that you diligently observe, and do according to all that the priests, the Levites, shall teach you: as I commanded them, so shall you observe to do. 9Remember what the LORD, your God, did to Miriam along the way, after you had come out of Egypt.

10When you lend anything to your neighbor, you shall not go into his house to get what he offered as his pledge. 11You shall stay outside, and the man to whom you lend shall bring the pledge out to you. 12And if the man is poor, you shall not sleep with his pledge in your possession: 13You shall deliver (or return to) him the pledge when the sun goes down, so that he may sleep in his own raiment, and bless you; and it shall be counted righteousness to you before the LORD your God.

14You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is a fellow Israelite, or one of the sojourners who are in your land within your gates. 15At the end of his day you shall give him his wages, before the sun goes down; for he is poor, and is counting on it; so that he does not cry against you to the LORD, and it becomes sin to you.

16Parents shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall the children be put to death for the parents; everyone shall die for their own sin.

17You shall not pervert the justice due the stranger, nor the fatherless; nor take a widow's clothing for a pledge; 18Remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and the LORD, your God, redeemed you from there: that is why I (Moses) command you to do this.

19When you harvest your field, and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to fetch it; it shall be left for the stranger, the fatherless, and for the widow, so that the LORD, your God, may bless you in all the work of your hands. 20When you beat your olive tree, you shall not go over the boughs again; it shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless, and for the widow. 21When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not glean it afterward; that shall be left for the sojourner, the fatherless, and for the widow. 22Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; that is why I command you to do this thing.
