1Now the serpent was more cunning than any of the wild animals which the LORD God had made. And the serpent said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from every tree of the garden?’” 2And the woman replied to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3But God did say, of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, ‘You shall not eat of it, nor shall you touch it, or you will die’”. 4But the serpent said to the woman, “You shall not surely die: 5For God knows that if you eat of it, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be like God, knowing good and evil”. 6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasing to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to gain wisdom, she took and ate some of its fruit, and she also gave some to her husband; and he ate it. 7And the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized that they were naked; and so they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

8And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 9And the LORD God called to Adam, “Where are you?” 10And he replied, “I heard You in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and so I hid myself.” 11And God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree from which I commanded you not to eat?” 12And Adam said, “The woman You gave to be with me, gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” 13Then the LORD God asked to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” And the woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate from it.”

14And the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above all wild animals! You shall crawl on your belly; and you shall eat dust all the days of your life; 15And I will put enmity (hostility) between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” 16Then to the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply the pain of your pregnancy; in pain you shall give birth to your children; and you shall desire to control your husband, but he shall rule over you.” 17And to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to your wife, and have eaten from the tree that I warned you about when I said, ‘You shall not eat from it’, the ground is cursed because of you; and only by painful toil shall you get food to eat from it. 18It shall also bring forth thorns and thistles for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field; 19By the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground; for out of its dust you were taken: and to dust you shall return.”

20And Adam named his wife Eve; because she would be the mother of all living (mankind). 21And the LORD God make clothes from animal skins for Adam and his wife, and clothed them. 22And the LORD God said, “The man has now become like one of Us, knowing both good and evil; and now he must not be allowed to reach and also take and eat from the tree of life, and live forever:” 23Therefore, the LORD God banished him from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he had been taken. 24So after He drove the man out; and He stationed Cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, armed with flaming swords which slashed back and forth, to guard the way to the tree of life.
