Isaiah 16

1Send lambs as tribute to the ruler of the land, from Sela through the wilderness, to the mount of beautiful Zion. 2The daughters of Moab at the fords of Arnon shall like a fluttering bird pushed out of its nest. 3“Give us advice and justice; let your shadow at noonday be dark as the night; hide the fugitives; do not betray the refugees. 4Let My outcasts dwell with you, Moab; shelter them from the spoiler”; until the terror is at an end, and the oppressors are vanished from the land. 5And in mercy shall the throne of David be established; and He (Christ) shall sit upon it in truth in the tabernacle of David, ruling in justice, and swiftly executing righteousness. 6We have heard of the pride of Moab – of his arrogance and his wrath - but his boastings are empty.

7Therefore shall all the Moabites wail for Moab. And grieve for the raisin cakes of Kir-hareseth. 8For the fields of Heshbon and the vine of Sibmah wither; the lords of the nations have trampled down its choicest plants that once reached to Jazer, their shoots spread through the wilderness, and stretched out to the sea. 9Therefore I (Isaiah) will weep for Jazer the vine of Sibmah; I (Isaiah) will water you with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh; for the joyous shouting for your summer fruits and your harvest is silenced. 10Joy and gladness for the plentiful field, and the vineyards are gone; there shall be no singing, nor shall there be shouting; the treaders shall not tread out wine in their presses; I have put an end to their shouting. 11Therefore my (Isaiah's) heart shall sound like a harp for Moab, and my innermost being for Kir-heres. 12When Moab appears at her high place, she only wears herself out; when she (the Moab nation) comes to her shrine to pray; it is to no avail.

13This is the word that the LORD has already spoken concerning Moab in the past. 14But now the LORD says, “Within three years, as a servant under contract would count them, the glory of Moab shall be despised, and her survivors shall be very small and feeble.
