1About Moab, thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: “Woe to Nebo! For it will be ruined; Kiriathaim disgraced and captured; the strongholds shall be overrun. 2There shall be no more praise of Moab; they in Heshbon have plotted evil against Moab; ‘Come, and let us put an end to that nation’. Also, you people of the town of Madmen shall be cut down; the sword shall pursue you. 3Cries of dismay shall come from Horonaim, at its devastation and great destruction. 4Moab will be destroyed; with cries of distress from her little ones. 5For her refugees weep bitterly as they climb the hill at Luhith; and as they go down the road to Horonaim – cries of destruction. 6Flee! Run for your lives, and hide like a shrub in the wilderness. 7Because you have trusted in your works and in your wealth, you shall also be captured; and Chemosh shall go into captivity, along with its priests and officials. 8And the destroyer shall assault every city; and no town shall escape. The valley and the plain shall also be destroyed, as the LORD has spoken. 9Give wings to Moab, so that it may fly and get away; for its cities shall be desolate, without any to dwell in them. 10A cursed on anyone that is lax in doing the work of the LORD, and that withholds his sword from bloodshed.”

11“Moab has been at ease from its youth, and has settled on his lees, and has not been emptied from one jar to another, nor has it gone into captivity; therefore, its taste (culture) and aroma remained unchanged. 12Therefore, the days are coming”, says the LORD, “that I will send raiders to him, that shall empty all her vessels, and break her jars. 13And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, just as the house of Israel was ashamed, when they trusted in Bethel. 14How can you say, ‘We are mighty warriors, and valiant in war?’ 15Moab will be ruined, and her cities invaded, and her best young men will go down in the slaughter”, says the King, Whose name is the LORD of hosts.

16The fall of Moab is at hand; its calamity will come quickly. 17All you that live near it, mourn for it; and all you that know its name, say, ‘How is the scepter, and the beautiful staff broken! 18Come down from your glory, and sit on the scorched ground, you inhabitants of Dibon; for the one who will destroy Moab shall come against you, and he shall destroy your strongholds. 19O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the road and watch; ask those that flee, seeking to escape, ‘What has happened’? 20Moab is confounded; for he is shattered. Wail and cry; proclaim it in Arnon, that Moab is ruined, 21And judgment has come upon the towns of the plateau - upon Holon, Jahaz, and Mephaath, 22And upon Dibon, Nebo, upon Beth-diblathaim, 23And upon Kiriathaim, Beth-gamul, and Beth-meon, 24And upon Kerioth, and Bozrah, and all the cities of the land of Moab, far or near. 25The horn (strength) of Moab is ended, and his arm is broken”, says the LORD. 26“Let him stagger and fall like a drunk; for he defied the LORD. Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he shall also be ridiculed. 27Was Israel not an object of derision to you? But was he (Israel) ever found to be among thieves, that you spoke of him with such disdain and derision.

28Abandon your towns and live among the rocks, you that dwell in Moab; be like the dove that makes its nest at the mouth of caves. 29We have heard the pride of Moab - his loftiness, his arrogance, his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart. 30I know his insolence”, says the LORD; “but his boasts shall be proven false – as empty as his deeds.” 31Therefore, I (Jeremiah) will wail for Moab, and I (Jeremiah) will cry out for all Moab; my (Jeremiah's) heart shall mourn for the men of Kir-heres. 32I (Jeremiah) will weep for you more than I did for Jazer; your vines have spread as far as the sea; they reach even to Jazer; but the spoiler is fallen upon the harvest of your ripened fruits and your grapes. 33“Joy and gladness are gone from the plentiful orchards and fields of Moab; and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses; none shall tread with shouting; their shall be no shouting. 34Instead, there shall be cries of terror from Heshbon to Elealeh, and to Jahaz, from Zoar even to Horonaim, like a three-year-old heifer; for the waters also of Nimrim shall be dried up. 35Moreover, I will put an end to those in Moab that offer in the high places, and that burn incense to their gods”, says the LORD. 36Therefore my (Jeremiah's) heart shall moan for Moab - sounding like pipes for the men of Kir-heres; because the riches that they have acquired are no more. 37For every head shall be shaved bald, and every beard clipped; upon all their hands shall be gashes, and upon the waist, sackcloth. 38“There shall be general lamentation on all the housetops, and in the streets of Moab; for I have shattered Moab like a jar that no one wants”, says the LORD.

39“They shall wail, saying, ‘How is it shattered! How Moab has turned his back in shame!’ So shall Moab be an object of horror and ridicule to all around him.” 40For thus says the LORD: “Look, an eagle is swooping down upon Moab. 41Kerioth is captured, and the strongholds are taken by surprise, and the mighty men's hearts in Moab on that day shall be like the heart of a woman in labor. 42Moab shall be destroyed as a nation, because he has defied the LORD. 43Fear, dangers and traps await the inhabitants of Moab”, says the LORD. 44“He that flees in fear shall fall into a pit; and he that gets out of the pit shall be taken in another trap; for I will bring the year of their judgment upon Moab”, says the LORD. 45“The fugitives stood under the shadow of Heshbon, helpless against the force; but a fire shall come out of Heshbon, and a flame from the middle of Sihon, and shall devour that corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the boastful rebels. 46Woe to you, O Moab! The people of Chemosh perish; your young men, and your daughters are taken captives. 47And yet, in the latter days, I will once again restore the captivity of Moab”, says the LORD. “This is the extent of the judgment of Moab.”
