Job 32

1So these three men stopped answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. 2Then Elihu, son of Barachel, the Buzite, of the clan of Ram, became angry with Job, because he justified himself rather than God. 3But he also faulted Job’s three friends for failing to refute Job’s claims of innocence, making it appear that God was wrong; and while, finding no specific fault in Job, they still condemned him. 4Elihu had waited before speaking to Job, because they were all older than he. 5He was appalled when these three older men had no more to say without ever forming and expressing an adequate response to Job’s words.

6Therefore, Elihu, son of Barachel, the Buzite, broke his silence and said, “I am young, and you are very old; so I was hesitant to voice my opinion. 7I thought, ‘Age should speak, for wisdom comes from many years’. 8But there is a spirit in man; and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them wisdom. 9Great men are not always wise; neither do the aged necessarily understand what is right. 10That is why I say, ‘Listen now to me; I also will share my opinion’. 11I have waited while you spoke; and listened to your reasoning, while you groped for words. 12I gave you my full attention, but none of you have refuted Job, or rebutted his arguments. 13And do not tell me ‘He is too wise for us; only God, and not man, can answer Job’. 14Job has not directed his words against me; nor would I respond to him as you did.” 15And when the three older men were too contrite and ashamed to answer, 16Elihu said. “Shall I continue, given your silence?” None of the three responded, but just stood there. 17Then Elihu said, “I will also offer my opinion. 18For I have much to say in this matter; the spirit within me compels me. 19My stomach is churning like new wine ready to burst, and I must vent. 20I must speak, so that I may find relief; I will open my lips and answer. 21I will not show partiality to any of you, nor engage in flattery while making my points. 22For I know if I tried using flattering words, my Maker would soon take me away.
