11Then the Jewish leaders looked for Him at the festival, and said, “Where is He?” 12And there was much widespread whispering among the people about Him; for some said, “He is a good Man”; while others said, “No, He deceives the people”. 13But no one spoke openly about Him for fear of the Jewish leaders.

14Not until about midway through the festival did Jesus go into the temple, and taught. 15And the Jews there marveled, saying, “How does this Man know so much, never having been taught?” 16Jesus answered them, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His Who sent Me. 17Anyone who chooses to do God’s will, shall learn whether my teaching is of God, or if I speak only of myself. 18He that speaks of himself seeks his own personal glory; but He that seeks the glory of Him Who sent Him, that man is true, and there is nothing false in Him. 19Has not Moses given you the law, and yet none of you obey the law? Why do you want to kill Me?” 20The people answered, “You are demon-possessed. Who wants to kill You?” 21Jesus replied, “I have done one miracle, and you all marvel. 22Moses gave you circumcision (but not really from Moses, but from the patriarchs), yet on the Sabbath day you circumcise a boy. 23If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath day, so that the law of Moses is not broken; are you angry at Me, because I have made a man entirely well on the Sabbath day? 24Do not judge by the outward appearance of things, but judge correctly.

25Then some in Jerusalem began to ask, “Is this not the One they want to kill? 26But here He is, speaking publicly, and they are saying nothing to Him. Have the Temple leaders concluded that This is indeed the very Christ? 27And yet we know where this Man is from; but when the Messiah comes, no one will know where He comes from.” 28Then Jesus, while still teaching in the temple, said, “Yes, you both know Me, and you know where I am from; and I am not here of My Own authority, but He Who sent Me is true; and you do not know Him. 29But I know Him; because I am from Him, and He has sent Me.” 30At this, they tried to seize Him; but no man laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come. 31And many of the people believed in Him, and said, “When the Messiah comes, will He perform more miracles than these which this Man has done?”

32The Pharisees heard that the people whispered such things about Him; and they and the chief priests sent officers to arrest Him. 33Then Jesus said to them, “I will be with you only a short time, and then I will go to Him Who sent Me. 34You shall look for Me, but shall not find Me; and where I am going, you cannot go.” 35Then the Jewish leaders asked themselves, “Where will He go, that we shall not find Him? Will He go to the dispersed among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks? 36What did He mean when He said, ‘You shall look for Me, but shall not find Me; and where I am going, you cannot go?’”

37On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me, and drink. 38Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of their heart shall flow rivers of living water”. 39(By this, He was referring to the Spirit, Whom they that believe in Him should receive; for the Holy Spirit had not yet been given; because Jesus was not yet entered His glory.)

40 And when they heard these words, many of the people said, “Of a truth this Man is the Prophet”. 41Others said, “This is the Christ (Messiah)”. But some said, “Shall the Messiah come out of Galilee? 42Does the scripture not say that the Messiah (Christ) comes from the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?” 43So there were divided opinions among the people about Him. 44And some of them wanted to seize Him; but no man laid a hand on Him.

45Finally, when the Temple guards went back to the chief priests and Pharisees; they asked the guards, “Why have you not brought Him? 46The guards answered, “Never has any man spoken like this Man”. 47Then the Pharisees retorted, “Are you also deceived? 48Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him? 49No! But this people, who know nothing about the law, are cursed.” 50Nicodemus (the one who came to Jesus by night, being one of them), said to them, 51“Does our law condemn any man before it hears him, and learns what he has done?” 52They answered, “Are you also from Galilee? Search the Scriptures and see; for out of Galilee comes no prophet.” 53And then everyone went to his own house.
