16And the Roman soldiers led Him away into the palace, called the Praetorium; and they called together the whole band of soldiers. 17And they put a purple robe on Him, and platted (twisted) a crown of thorns, and put it on His head, 18And they began to salute Him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 19And they repeatedly struck Him on the head with a reed, and spat upon Him, and bowing their knees, mockingly worshipped Him. 20And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple robe off Him, and put His own clothes back on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him.

21And they compelled a certain Cyrenian who has passing by out of the country, named Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear (carry) His cross. 22And they brought Him to the place called Golgotha, which means, “The place of a skull”. 23And they offered Him a drink of wine mingled with myrrh; but He refused it. 24And when they had crucified Him (nailed Him to the cross), they divided His garments, casting lots to determine what each man should take. 25And it was the third hour (9AM) when they crucified Him. 26And the sign of His accusation was hung above Him, which read, “THE KING OF THE JEWS”. 27And they crucified two thieves with Him; the one on His right hand, and the other on His left. 28And so the scripture was fulfilled, which says, “And He was numbered with the transgressors”.

29And those that passed by railed on Him, wagging their heads, and saying, “Ah, You that destroys the temple, and rebuilds it in three days, 30Save Yourself, and come down from the cross”. 31So, also, the chief priests, mocking, said among themselves, with the scribes, “He saved others; but He cannot save Himself. 32Let Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” And those two thieves that were crucified with Him reviled Him. 33And when the sixth (noon) hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour (3PM). 34And at the ninth hour Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 35And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, “Listen, He is calling Elijah.” 36And someone ran and filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink, saying, “Let be; let us see whether Elijah will come to take Him down”. 37And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and gave up the ghost.

38And the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. 39And when the centurion, who stood facing Him, saw that He so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, “Truly this Man was the Son of God.”

40There were also women watching from a distance; among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary, the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome; 41(Who are the women that when He was in Galilee, followed Him, and ministered unto Him); and many other women who came up with Him unto Jerusalem. 42And now when the evening had come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, 43Joseph, of Arimathaea, an prominent member of the council, who himself awaited the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. 44And Pilate was surprised that He was already dead, and summoned the centurion to him, and he asked him whether He had already died. 45And when he learned that of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. 46And so Joseph bought fine linen, and took down the body of Jesus, wrapped Him in the linen, and laid Him in a sepulcher (tomb) which was had been hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. 47And Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of Joses, observed where He was laid.
