1And they arrived at the other side of the sea, in the country of the Gerasenes.
2And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man possessed by an evil spirit,
3Who lived among the tombs; and no man could restrain him, not even with chains;
4Because he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and he had snapped chains apart, and smashed the shackles in pieces; nor could any man subdue him.
5And night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
6But when he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees before Him,
7And shouted with a loud voice, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You by the name of God, do not torment me.
8For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit.”
9Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” And he answered, “My name is Legion; for we are many.”
10And he begged Jesus, time and again, that He would not send them away out of the area.
11Now there happened to be a large herd of swine, feeding on a mountainside nearby.
12And all the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us among the swine, that we may enter into them.”
13And Jesus granted them their request. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered the swine; whereupon the herd of about two thousand pigs ran violently down a steep place into the sea, where they drowned.
14And those that tended the swine ran off, and told it in the city, and in the country. And then the people went out to see what had happened.
15And they came to Jesus, and saw him that was possessed with the demon, and had the legion, sitting, clothed, and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
16And those that had seen it told them what had happened to him that was possessed with the demon, as well as the swine.
17And then the people began to implore Him to go away and leave them alone.
18And when He was had gotten into the boat, the man that had been possessed with the demons begged to go with Jesus.
19But Jesus did not let him, but said to him, “Go home to your family and friends, and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.”
20And so he went away, and began to proclaim in Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him; and all the people were amazed.
21And when Jesus had again crossed over again by boat to the other side, many people gathered to Him while and He was by the sea.
22And when one of the rulers of the synagogue named Jairus saw Him, he fell at His feet,
23And pleaded with Him, saying, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed; and live.”
24And so Jesus went with him; and many people followed and crowded Him.
25And a certain woman, who had had an issue of blood for twelve years,
26And had endured many procedures by many physicians, and spent all that she had on treatments, and was no better, but rather grew worse,
27When she had heard of Jesus, came through the crowd behind Him, and touched His garment.
28For she thought, “If I may just touch His clothes, I shall be healed”.
29And immediately bleeding stopped; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that condition.
30And at once, Jesus realized that power had gone out from Him, and turned around in the crowd, and asked, “Who touched My clothes?”
31And His disciples said to Him, “You see the throng that is crowding You, and You ask, “Who touched Me?”
32But He continued to look around to see who had done it.
33Then the woman, fearful and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at His feet, and told Him the whole truth.
34And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be freed from your affliction.”
35And while He yet spoke, some people came from the ruler of the synagogue's house and said, “Your daughter is dead; why bother the Master any further?”
36And when Jesus heard that word, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Be not afraid; just have faith”.
37And He permitted no one to follow Him, except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James.
38And they came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw the commotion, and those that wept and wailed loudly.
39And when He went in, He said to them, “Why all this commotion? The child is not dead, but asleep.”
40And they laughed Him to scorn. But after He had ushered them all out, He took the father and mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and went in where the child was lying.
41And He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha cumi” (koumi); which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.”
42And immediately the child arose, and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). And they were completely astonished.
