1At that time Herod, the tetrarch, heard the reports about Jesus, 2And said to his attendants, “This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead; and that is why mighty powers are at work in Him”. 3For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. 4Because John had been telling him (Philip), “It is not lawful for you to have her”. 5And Herod wanted to have him put to death, but he feared the people, because they considered him a prophet. 6But when Herod's birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod, 7Prompting him to promise by an oath to give her whatever she would ask. 8And she, having been instructed by her mother before, said, “Give me here John Baptist's head on a charger (platter)”. 9And the king regretted what he had said; but, nevertheless, for the oath's sake, and those who were his dinner guests, he commanded that her request be granted her.

10And he sent, and had John beheaded in the prison. 11And his head was brought on a platter, and given to the girl; and she brought it to her mother. 12And his disciples came, and took his body, and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus.

13When Jesus heard what had happened, He left there by boat to a solitary desert place; and when the people had heard where He had gone, they followed Him out of the cities on foot. 14And when Jesus saw a great multitude, He was moved with compassion for them, and He healed their sick. 15And as evening approached, His disciples came to Him, and said, “This is a desert place, and it is getting late; send the crowds away, so they can go into the villages, and buy themselves some food”. 16But Jesus replied, “They have no need to leave; you give them something to eat”. 17And they answered Him, “We have here only five loaves, and two fish.” 18He said, “Bring them here to Me.” 19And He directed the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed, and broke, and gave the loaves to His disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 20And they all ate, and were satisfied; and then they took up of the remnants that remained - twelve baskets full. 21And those that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

22And immediately Jesus had His disciples get into a boat, and go on ahead of Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowd of people. 23And after He had sent them away, He went up on a mountainside by Himself to pray; and as night fell, He was there alone. 24And the disciple’s boat was now in the middle of the sea, and being tossed about by the waves; for a contrary wind had risen. 25And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. 26And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were alarmed, and said, “It is a ghost”; and they cried out in fear. 27But Jesus called out to them, saying, “Be of good cheer; do not fear; it is I”. 28And Peter answered and said, “Lord, if it is You, tell me to come to You on the water”. 29And He said, “Come”. Then Peter got down out of the boat, and he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. 30But the boisterous wind made him afraid; and he began to sink, and cried, “Lord, save me”. 31And immediately Jesus reached out His hand, and grabbed him, and said, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32And when they had climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33Then those that were in the boat worshipped Him, saying, “Of a truth You are the Son of God”. 34And when they had crossed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.

35And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent out into all the surrounding countryside, and brought all that were diseased to Him to be healed; 36And they begged Him to let the sick just touch the hem of His garment; and all who touched it were made perfectly well.
