Proverbs 7

1My son, keep my words, and store my instructions within you. 2Keep my teachings, and live; guard my law as the apple of your eye. 3Bind them upon your fingers, write them upon the tablet of your heart. 4Say to wisdom, “You are my sister”, and say of understanding, “You are my nearest kin”, 5That they may keep you from the illicit woman, who flatters with her words. 6From a window of my house I looked through the curtain, 7And as I watched simple folks, I noticed among the youths, a young man who had no understanding, 8Going down the street near her corner toward her house, 9At twilight, as the day faded into the dark of night. 10And a woman with the attire of a harlot, and with devious intent met him there. 11She is loud and unruly type; never staying at home; 12She lurks outside in the streets, lying in wait at every corner. 13So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said to him, 14“I have just made peace offerings, and have paid my vows. 15So I came out to meet you, to look for you, and have found you. 16I have spread my bed with embroidered tapestry coverings, and with fine linen of Egypt. 17I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. 18Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning; let us enjoy ourselves with love. 19For my husband is not at home, he has gone on a long journey: 20He took a bag of money with him, and will not come home until the day appointed”. 21With her persuasive words she caused him to yield, with the flattering lips she enticed him. 22He followed her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a wild animal into a trap. 23Till an arrow pierces his liver - as a bird rushes to the snare, and knows not that it will cost him his life. 24Hear me now, therefore, my children, and pay attention to what I say. 25Do not let your heart turn to her ways, nor go astray in her paths. 26For she has brought many such victims low; yea, many strong men have been slain by her. 27Her house is the way to death, going down to the chambers of hell.
