Maschil of David; A Prayer when he was in the cave.

1I called unto the LORD with my plea. 2I poured out my complaint before Him; I told Him my trouble. 3When I felt overwhelmed, then You watched over my path. They secretly laid a snare for me along the path I usually tread. 4I looked to my left and right, and found no one that would recognize or cared for me, or offer me refuge. 5I cried unto You, O LORD. I said, “You are my refuge and my lot here in the land of the living. 6Give attention to my plea for help; for I am in dire straits. Deliver me from my adversaries who are too strong for me. 7Free my soul from this prison, that I may praise Your name. Then the godly will surround me; for You shall deal generously with me.

A Psalm of David. During the war with the followers of his son, Absalom
