Psalm 2

1Why do the nations (heathen) rage, and the peoples imagine a vain thing? 2The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers conspire against the LORD, and against His anointed, saying, 3Let us break their laws, and free ourselves from their constraints.

4He Who sits in the heavens laughs; the LORD is amused by them. 5But then He shall rebuke and trouble them in His great displeasure. 6Yet have I set My King upon My holy hill of Zion. 7I will declare the decree: The LORD has said unto Me, You are My Son; this day have I begotten Thee. 8Ask of Me, and I shall give You the nations {heathen} for Your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Your possession. 9You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

10Be wise now, therefore, O you kings; be instructed, you judges of the earth. 11Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish from the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they who put their trust in Him.

A psalm of David when he fled from his son Absalom.
