2 Kings 2
Peshitta Holy Bible Translated Par ▾
1And it was that when LORD JEHOVAH would take up Elyah in a whirlwind to Heaven, Elyah and Elisha also went from Galgala. 2And Elyah said to Elisha: “Wait for me here, because LORD JEHOVAH has sent me to Bayth Eil.” And Elisha said: “As LORD JEHOVAH is living and your soul is living, I shall not leave you!” And they went down to Bayth Eil. 3And the sons of the Prophets of Bayth Eil went out to Elisha, and they were saying to him: ”Do you not know that today LORD JEHOVAH will take your Lord from your head?” And he said: “I know also! Be silent!”

4And Elyah said to Elisha: “Wait for me here, because LORD JEHOVAH has sent me to Jeirikho!” And he said: “As LORD JEHOVAH is living and your soul is living, I shall not leave you!” And they went to Jeirikho. 5And the sons of the Prophets who were in Jeirikho approached Elisha, and they were saying to him: “Do you know that today LORD JEHOVAH will take your Lord from your head?” And he said: “I also know. Be silent!” 6And Elyah said to Elisha: “Wait for me here, because LORD JEHOVAH has sent me to the Jordan. And he said: “As LORD JEHOVAH is living and your soul is living, I shall not leave you!” And they both went.

7And fifty men of the sons of the Prophets went, and they stood across at a distance, and the two stood on the edge of Jordan. 8And Elyah took his cloak and wrapped it and struck the waters of the Jordan, and they were divided, half here and half there, and both crossed on dry land.

9And when they had crossed, Elyah said to Elisha: “Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken from you.” and Elisha said: “Let a double of your spirit be upon me!” 10And he said: “You have multiplied the request. If you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so to you, and if not, it shall not be.” 11And it was that when they were speaking and walking, also, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire, and they parted between both of them, and Elyah went up in a whirlwind to Heaven. 12And Elisha saw, and behold, he cried out and said: “My father! My father! The chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” And he did not see him again. And he grasped on his clothes and he ripped them into two pieces. 13And he picked up the cloak of Elyah that fell from him, and he returned and stood himself on the edge of Jordan. 14And he called LORD JEHOVAH and he took the cloak of Elyah that fell from him, and he struck the water and he said: “Oh, LORD JEHOVAH, God of my Lord Elyah!” Also, he struck the waters of the Jordan, and they were divided, half here and half there, and Elisha crossed over.

15And the sons of the Prophets who were in Jeirikho saw from the opposite side, and they said: “The spirit of Elyah dwells on Elisha!” And they came to meet him, and they bowed to him on the ground. 16And they said to him: “Behold, there are here with your Servants fifty men, mighty men of power. Let them go and they will seek your Master, lest the Spirit of LORD JEHOVAH has taken him up and has cast him into one of the mountains, or in one of the rivers.” And he said: “You shall not send!” 17And they contended with him until he was ashamed of them, and he said: “Send!” And they sent fifty men and they looked for him three days, and they did not find him. 18And they came to him, and he dwelt in Jericho, and he said to them: “Did I not tell you that you should not go?”

19And the men of the city said to Elisha: “Behold, the dwelling of the city is good, as our Lord sees, and the waters are poor, and the land barren!” 20And he said: “Bring to me one new pitcher and put salt in it.” And they brought it to him. 21And he went out to a spring of waters and cast the salt there, and said: “Thus says LORD JEHOVAH, ‘I have healed these waters, and there shall not be there again that which dies or what is barren!” 22And these waters are healed until today, according to the word of Elisha that he spoke.

23And he went up from there to Bayth Eil, and he went up on the road, and small boys went out from the city and were mocking him, and they were saying: “Go up, bald head! Go up, bald head!” 24And he turned back and he saw them, and he cursed them in the name of LORD JEHOVAH. And two she bears went out from the forest and lacerated fortytwo boys of them. 25And he went on from there to the mountain of Karmela, and from there again to Samaria.
