Genesis 15
Peshitta Holy Bible Translated Par ▾
1After these answers was the answer of LORD JEHOVAH to Abram in a vision and he said to him: “Do not fear Abram; I shall support you, your very great reward.”

2And Abram said: “LORD JEHOVAH God, what will you give to me, for I have gone without sons, and Eliezar of Darmsuq, a tenant of my house, is heir to me?” 3And Abram said, “Behold, you have not given me a son, and behold, a tenant of my house is heir to me.” 4And LORD JEHOVAH said to him: “This shall not be your heir, but your son who proceeds from your loins, he will be your heir.” 5And he sent him outside and said to him, “Look into Heaven and count the stars, if you can number them”; and he said to him, “So your seed shall be.” 6And Abram believed in God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. 7And he said to him, “I AM LORD JEHOVAH who brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to inherit it.”

8And Abram said, “LORD JEHOVAH, God, by what shall I know that I am heir to it”? 9And he said to him, “Take to you a threeyearold calf and a threeyearold ram and a three year old goat and a pigeon and a son of doves. 10And he took to him all of these and divided them equally and laid the members against its counterpart and he did not divide the birds. 11And a bird of prey was descending on the carcasses and Abram was driving it off.

12And it happened that the sun was setting, and silence fell on Abram, and behold, fear and great darkness fell upon him. 13And he said to Abram, “Surely you shall know that your seed shall be an inhabitant in a land that is not theirs, and they shall serve them, and they shall subject them four hundred years; 14Also the people whom they serve I judge, and after this they will go out with great possessions. 15And you shall be gathered to your fathers in peace and you shall be buried in a good old age. 16And in the fourth age they shall return here, because the debts of the Amorites are not yet fulfilled.

17And the sun was setting; there was darkness and behold, a furnace that smoked and a lamp of fire that passed between these halves.

18In that day LORD JEHOVAH established a covenant with Abram and said to him: “To your seed I shall give this land from the river of Egypt and unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

19The Qenites and the Qenezites and the Qadmunites. 20And the Khithites and the Perezites and the Giants. 21And the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Gergusites and the Yebusites.
