John 3
Literal Emphasis Translation Par ▾
1And there was a man from out of the Pharisees, his name Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; 2He came to Him by night and said to Him, Rabbi, we know that You have come from God, a teacher; for no one is able to do these signs that You do unless God should be with him. 3Jesus answered and said to him, Truly (Amen), truly (amen) I say to you, If anyone be not born from above, he is not able to see the kingdom of God.

4Nicodemus says to Him, How is a man able to be born, being old? Is he able to enter a second time into the womb of his mother and be born? 5Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, If anyone be not born from out of water and Spirit, he is not able to enter into the kingdom of God. 6That having been born from out of the flesh is flesh; and that having been born from out of the Spirit is spirit. 7Do not marvel that I said to you, It is necessary for you to be born from above. 8The wind (Spirit) blows (breathes) where it (He) wants and the sound (voice) of it (Him) you hear, but know not from where it (He) comes and where it (He) goes; thus is everyone having been born from out of the Spirit.

9Nicodemus answered and said to Him, How are these things able to be? 10Jesus answered and said to him, You are the teacher of Israel and you do not know these things? 11Truly, truly I say to you, We speak that that which we know, and we bear witness of that which we have seen; and you do not receive our witness. 12If I have told the earthly things to you and you do not believe, how, if I tell the heavenly things to you, will you believe? 13And no one has gone up into heaven, unless the One from out of heaven having come down, the Son of man, {who is in heaven}. 14And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, thus the Son of man must be lifted up, 15So that everyone believing in Him might have life eternal.

16For God thus (in this way) loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that everyone believing unto Him should not perish but might have life eternal. 17For God did not send His Son into the world so that He might judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. 18The one believing unto Him is not judged; however the one not believing has already been judged because he has not believed unto the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19And this is the judgment, that light has come into the world and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil (ponera). 20For everyone practicing evil things (phaula, foul, worthless, bad) hates (detests) the light and does not come to the light, so that his works might be exposed (reproved, convicted, rebuked); 21However the one doing the truth comes to the light, so that his works might be made apparent that they have been done in God.

22After these things, Jesus and His disciples came into the Judean land; and there He stayed with them, and was baptizing. 23And John was also baptizing in Aenon, near Salim, because there were many waters there; and they were coming and being baptized. 24For John had not yet been cast into prison.

25Then arose a question from out of the disciples of John with a Jew concerning purification. 26And they came to John and said to him, Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan to whom you have borne witness, behold He baptizes and all come to Him. 27John answered and said, A man is not able to receive anything unless it is given to him from out of heaven. 28You yourselves bear witness to me that I said that I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before Him. 29The one having the bride (nymphen) is the bridegroom (nymphios); however the friend of the bridegroom, the one standing and hearing him, rejoices with with because of the voice of the bridegroom, this then, the joy of mine is fulfilled. 30That One there must increase (grow, become greater), however me decrease (make less in rank or influence, make inferior).

31The One coming from above is above all. The one being from out of the earth is from out of the earth and speaks from out of the earth. The One coming from heaven is above all. 32What He has seen and heard, this He testifies; and no one receives His testimony. 33The one having received His testimony has set his seal to this, that God is true; 34For He whom God sent speaks the sayings (rhemata) of God; for He gives the Spirit not from out of measure [to Him]. 35The Father loves the Son and has given all things in His hand. 36The one believing unto the Son has life eternal; and the one refusing to be persuaded of the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him.
