Matthew 19
Literal Emphasis Translation Par ▾
1And it happened, when Jesus had finished these words, he withdrew away from Galilee and came unto the boundaries of Judea beyond the Jordan. 2And many crowds followed Him and He healed them there.

3And the Pharisees came to Him, testing Him, and saying, Is it permitted for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all? 4And He answering, said, Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female (female with nursing breasts), 5And said, By reason of this a man will leave father and mother and will cleave (glue, bond, join, unite) to his wife and the two will become unto one flesh? 6So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God jointly paired together (yoked together), do not let man separate (divide, vacate). 7They say to Him, Why then did Moses command to give a letter of divorce (forsaking, repudiation) and send her away (release, let go, divorce her)? 8He says to them, Moses, in view of your hardheartedness (hard because dry), allowed you to divorce your wives; however it was not this way from the beginning. 9And I say to you, that whoever shall divorce his wife except based upon fornication (sexual immorality, promiscuity of any type, surrendering/selling off of sexual purity) and shall marry another commits adultery {; and he who marries her that is divorced commits adultery. – not in vulgate, ESV, NASB}.

10His disciples say to Him, If this is the case of the man with the wife, it is better not to marry. 11And He said to them, Not all make room for this word, but those to whom it has been given. 12For there are eunuchs who from out of the womb of their mother were born thus, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men and there are eunuchs who made eunuchs of themselves for the sake of the kingdom of the heavens. The one being able to make room for it, let him make room for it.

13Then little children were brought to Him so that he might lay His hands upon them and might pray. And the disciples censured them [who brought]. 14And Jesus said, Let (permit) the little children and do not hinder them to come to Me; for of such kind is the kingdom of the heavens. 15And having laid His hands upon them, He departed from there.

16And behold, one having come to Him, said, Teacher, what good [thing] shall I do so that I might have life eternal? 17And He said to him, Why do you ask Me concerning what is good? One is good. And if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments. 18He says to Him, Which? And Jesus said, You will not murder; you will not commit adultery; you will not steal; you will not falsely testify; 19Honor (value) your father and your mother; and You will love your neighbor (nearby) like as yourself. 20The young man says to Him, All these things I have kept. What yet do I lack? 21Jesus said to him, If you want to be perfect (full-grown), go, sell that you are possessing, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in the heavens; and come, follow Me. 22And having heard this word, the young man went away grieving; for he was one having many possessions (properties).

23And Jesus said to His disciples, Truly I say to you, that a rich man will enter with difficulty into the kingdom of the heavens. 24And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye (hole) of a needle, than a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 25And the disciples having heard this were very astounded (thunderstruck, panicked), saying, Who then is able to be saved? 26And Jesus having looked at them, said to them, With men this is impossible, however with God all things are possible.

27Then Peter answering said to Him, Behold, we left all things and followed You; what then will be to us? 28And Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you that you who having followed Me, in the regeneration (birth/beginning again), when the Son of Man shall sit down upon His throne of glory, you also will sit upon twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29And everyone who has left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for the sake of My name will receive a hundredfold and will inherit life eternal; 30And many first will be last, and last first.
