Revelation 21
Literal Emphasis Translation Par ▾
1And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and first earth had passed away (gone away, departed), and the sea is not any longer. 2And the holy city, the new Jerusalem, I saw coming down from out of heaven from God having been prepared like as a bride having been adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a great voice from out of heaven, saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men and He will tabernacle with them and they will be His peoples (of note-people is plural here), and God Himself will be with them as their God. 4And He will wipe away every tear from out of their eyes; and death will be no longer, nor mourning, nor crying, nor pain; they will be no longer because the first things have passed away.

5And the One sitting upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And He says, Write, because these are faithful and true words. 6And He said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give to the one thirsting from out of the spring of the water of life freely (as a free gift). 7The one overcoming will inherit all things and I will be his God and he will be My son: 8However to the cowardly (timid, fearful of losses), and unbelieving, and having become abominable (detestable), and murderers, and fornicators (the sexually immoral), and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their portion is in the lake burning with fire and brimstone (sulphur), which is the second death.

9And one from out of the seven angels came having the seven bowls being full of the seven last plagues, and spoke with me, saying, Come here, I will show you the bride (nymphen, latin-sponsam-bride), the wife (gynaika, latin-uxorem-wife) of the Lamb.

10And he carried me away in the Spirit upon a great and high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem, descending from out of heaven away from God, 11Having the glory of God. Its radiance was similar to a most precious stone, like as a jasper stone being clear as crystal; 12Having a great and high wall, having twelve gates and twelve angels at (upon, over) the gates, and names having been inscribed which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. 13From the east (rising of the sun, latin-oriente) were three gates (latin-portae-gates like portals); and from the north, three gates; and from the south, three gates; and from the west (setting of the sun), three gates. 14And the wall of the city having twelve foundations, and upon them the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

15And the one speaking with me had a golden measuring reed, so that he should measure the city, and its gates, and its walls. stadia, about 1500 miles-NASB and AMP). The length, and the breadth, and the height of it are equal. 16And the city lies foursquare (laid out as a square), and its length is the same as the width. And he measured the city with the reed at (upon) twelve thousand stadia (12,000 stadia, about 1500 miles-NASB and AMP). The length, and the breadth, and the height of it are equal. 17And he measured its wall, a hundred forty four cubits (about 72 yards-NASB-AMP), the measure of man, that is, of an angel. 18And the structure (material of the building, latin-structura) of the wall, of it jasper; and the city pure gold similar to clear glass. 19The foundations of the wall of the city having been adorned with every precious stone; the first foundation, jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, emerald; 20The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eigth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst. 21And the twelve gates, twelve pearls; each one of the gates respectively was from out of one pearl; and the street of the city pure gold like as transparent (able to shine through) glass.

22And I saw no temple in it; for the Lord God Almighty is its temple- and the Lamb. 23And the city has no need of the sun nor of the moon so that they should shine in it; for the glory of God enlightened it and the Lamb is its lamp. 24And the ethnicities will walk by its light; and the kings of the earth bring their [ethnicities] glory and honor (valuing) into it. 25And its gates shall not be shut by day; for there will not be night. 26And they will bring the glory and the honor of the ethnicities into it. 27And there never shall enter into it anything defiling and those practicing abomination and a lie; only those having been written in the book of life of the Lamb.
