International Standard VersionEnglish Standard Version
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, because the first heaven and the first earth had disappeared, and the sea was gone. 1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
I also saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.2And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
I heard a loud voice from the throne say, "See, the tent of God is among humans! He will make his home with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them, and he will be their God. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There won't be death anymore. There won't be any grief, crying, or pain, because the first things have disappeared."4He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
The one sitting on the throne said, "See, I am making all things new!" He said, "Write this: 'These words are trustworthy and true.'"5And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
Then he told me, "It has happened! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will freely give a drink from the spring of the water of life to the one who is thirsty. 6And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.
The person who conquers will inherit these things. I will be his God, and he will be my son. 7The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
But people who are cowardly, unfaithful, detestable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars will find themselves in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death."8But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came to me and said, "Come! I will show you the bride, the wife of the lamb." 9Then came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues and spoke to me, saying, “Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb.”
He carried me away in the Spirit to a large, high mountain and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven. 10And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God,
The glory of God was its radiance, and its light was like a valuable gem, like jasper, as clear as crystal. 11having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.
It had a large, high wall with twelve gates. Twelve angels were at the gates, and the names of the twelve tribes of Israel were written on the gates. 12It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed—
There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. 13on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates.
The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the lamb were written on them.14And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
The angel who was talking to me had a gold measuring rod to measure the city, its gates, and its walls. 15And the one who spoke with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city and its gates and walls.
The city was cubic in shape: its length was the same as its width. He measured the city with his rod, and it measured at 12,000 stadia: Its length, width, and height were the same. 16The city lies foursquare, its length the same as its width. And he measured the city with his rod, 12,000 stadia. Its length and width and height are equal.
He also measured its wall. According to the human measurement that the angel was using, it was 144 cubits.17He also measured its wall, 144 cubits by human measurement, which is also an angel’s measurement.
Its wall was made of jasper. The city was made of pure gold, as clear as glass.18The wall was built of jasper, while the city was pure gold, like clear glass.
The foundations of the city wall were decorated with all kinds of gems: The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 19The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel. The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald,
the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth and the twelfth amethyst. 20the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.
The twelve gates were twelve pearls, and each gate was made of a single pearl. The street of the city was made of pure gold, as clear as glass.21And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.
I saw no temple in it, because the Lord God Almighty and the lamb are its temple. 22And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb.
The city doesn't need any sun or moon to give it light, because the glory of God gave it light, and the lamb was its lamp. 23And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.
The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. 24By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it,
Its gates will never be shut at the end of the day—because there will be no night there. 25and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there.
People will bring the glory and wealth of the nations into it. 26They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations.
Nothing unclean, or anyone who does anything detestable, and no one who tells lies will ever enter it. Only those whose names are written in the lamb's Book of Life will enter it. 27But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
