Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,1Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.2that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;3Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.4who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.
Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?5Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?
And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.6And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed.
For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.
And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:8Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;
Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,9that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,
And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.10and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:11For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false,
That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.12in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.
But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:13But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.14It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.15So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us.
Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace,
Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.17comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.
