Psalm 140
KJV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
King James BibleNew Living Translation
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man;1O LORD, rescue me from evil people. Protect me from those who are violent,
Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.2those who plot evil in their hearts and stir up trouble all day long.
They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah.3Their tongues sting like a snake; the venom of a viper drips from their lips. Interlude
Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.4O LORD, keep me out of the hands of the wicked. Protect me from those who are violent, for they are plotting against me.
The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah.5The proud have set a trap to catch me; they have stretched out a net; they have placed traps all along the way. Interlude
I said unto the LORD, Thou art my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD.6I said to the LORD, “You are my God!” Listen, O LORD, to my cries for mercy!
O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.7O Sovereign LORD, the strong one who rescued me, you protected me on the day of battle.
Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah.8LORD, do not let evil people have their way. Do not let their evil schemes succeed, or they will become proud. Interlude
As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.9Let my enemies be destroyed by the very evil they have planned for me.
Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.10Let burning coals fall down on their heads. Let them be thrown into the fire or into watery pits from which they can’t escape.
Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.11Don’t let liars prosper here in our land. Cause great disasters to fall on the violent.
I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.12But I know the LORD will help those they persecute; he will give justice to the poor.
Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.13Surely righteous people are praising your name; the godly will live in your presence.
