For the choir director. A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; Preserve my life from dread of the enemy.1To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
Hide me from the secret counsel of evildoers, From the tumult of those who do iniquity,2Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:
Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword. They aimed bitter speech as their arrow,3Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:
To shoot from concealment at the blameless; Suddenly they shoot at him, and do not fear.4That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
They hold fast to themselves an evil purpose; They talk of laying snares secretly; They say, "Who can see them?"5They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them?
They devise injustices, saying, "We are ready with a well-conceived plot"; For the inward thought and the heart of a man are deep.6They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep.
But God will shoot at them with an arrow; Suddenly they will be wounded.7But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded.
So they will make him stumble; Their own tongue is against them; All who see them will shake the head.8So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away.
Then all men will fear, And they will declare the work of God, And will consider what He has done.9And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.
The righteous man will be glad in the LORD and will take refuge in Him; And all the upright in heart will glory.10The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.
