New King James VersionInternational Standard Version
But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you.1Now you do not need to have anything written to you about times and dates, brothers,
For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.2for you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.3When people say, "There is peace and security," destruction will strike them as suddenly as labor pains come to a pregnant woman, and they will not be able to escape.
But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.4However, brothers, you are not in the darkness, in order that the Day of the Lord might surprise you like a thief.
You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.5For all of you are children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to darkness.
Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.6Therefore, let's not fall asleep like others do, but let's stay awake and be sober.
For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.7For people who go to sleep, go to sleep at night; and people who get drunk, get drunk at night.
But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.8But since we belong to the day, let's be sober. We must put on the breastplate of faith and love, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,9For God has not destined us to receive wrath but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus, the Messiah,
who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.10who died for us in order that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.
Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.11So then, encourage one another and build each other up, as you are doing.
And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,12Brothers, we ask you to show your appreciation for those who work among you, set an example for you in the Lord, and instruct you.
and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.13Hold them in the highest regard, loving them because of their work. Live in peace with each other.
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.14We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are idle, cheer up those who are discouraged, and help those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.
See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.15Make sure that no one pays back evil for evil. Instead, always pursue what is good for each other and for everyone else.
Rejoice always,16Always be joyful.
pray without ceasing,17Continually be prayerful.
in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.18In everything be thankful, because this is God's will for you in the Messiah Jesus.
Do not quench the Spirit.19Do not put out the Spirit's fire.
Do not despise prophecies.20Do not despise prophecies.
Test all things; hold fast what is good.21Instead, test everything. Hold on to what is good.
Abstain from every form of evil.22Keep away from every kind of evil.
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.23May the God of peace himself make you holy in every way. And may your whole being—spirit, soul, and body—remain blameless when our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, appears.
He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.24The one who calls you is faithful, and he will continue to be faithful.
Brethren, pray for us.25Brothers, pray for us.
Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.26Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read to all the holy brethren.27I order you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.28May the grace of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be with you! Amen.
