Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”1And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.
And Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, and change your garments.2Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:
Then let us arise and go up to Bethel; and I will make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me in the way which I have gone.”3And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.
So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the terebinth tree which was by Shechem.4And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.
And they journeyed, and the terror of God was upon the cities that were all around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.5And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
So Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.6So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.
And he built an altar there and called the place El Bethel, because there God appeared to him when he fled from the face of his brother.7And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.
Now Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the terebinth tree. So the name of it was called Allon Bachuth.8But Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.
Then God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Padan Aram, and blessed him.9And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him.
And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, but Israel shall be your name.” So He called his name Israel.10And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.
Also God said to him: “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body.11And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;
The land which I gave Abraham and Isaac I give to you; and to your descendants after you I give this land.”12And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.
Then God went up from him in the place where He talked with him.13And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.
So Jacob set up a pillar in the place where He talked with him, a pillar of stone; and he poured a drink offering on it, and he poured oil on it.14And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.
And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, Bethel.15And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel.
Then they journeyed from Bethel. And when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel labored in childbirth, and she had hard labor.16And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.
Now it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, “Do not fear; you will have this son also.”17And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.
And so it was, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name Ben-Oni; but his father called him Benjamin.18And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.
So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).19And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
And Jacob set a pillar on her grave, which is the pillar of Rachel’s grave to this day.20And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.
Then Israel journeyed and pitched his tent beyond the tower of Eder.21And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.
And it happened, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine; and Israel heard about it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:22And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
the sons of Leah were Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun;23The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:
the sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin;24The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin:
the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s maidservant, were Dan and Naphtali;25And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali:
and the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s maidservant, were Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Padan Aram.26And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid; Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padanaram.
Then Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre, or Kirjath Arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had dwelt.27And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.
Now the days of Isaac were one hundred and eighty years.28And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.
So Isaac breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people, being old and full of days. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.29And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
