To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions.1To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.2Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me.3For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight— That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge.4Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.5Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.6Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Make me hear joy and gladness, That the bones You have broken may rejoice.8Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities.9Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.10Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.11Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.12Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You.13Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, The God of my salvation, And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.14Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
O Lord, open my lips, And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.15O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering.16For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise.17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion; Build the walls of Jerusalem.18Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, With burnt offering and whole burnt offering; Then they shall offer bulls on Your altar.19Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
