Deuteronomy 18
NKJV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
“The priests, the Levites—all the tribe of Levi—shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel; they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and His portion.1"The Levitical priests, the whole tribe of Levi, shall have no portion or inheritance with Israel; they shall eat the LORD'S offerings by fire and His portion.
Therefore they shall have no inheritance among their brethren; the LORD is their inheritance, as He said to them.2"They shall have no inheritance among their countrymen; the LORD is their inheritance, as He promised them.
“And this shall be the priest’s due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it is bull or sheep: they shall give to the priest the shoulder, the cheeks, and the stomach.3"Now this shall be the priests' due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, either an ox or a sheep, of which they shall give to the priest the shoulder and the two cheeks and the stomach.
The firstfruits of your grain and your new wine and your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, you shall give him.4"You shall give him the first fruits of your grain, your new wine, and your oil, and the first shearing of your sheep.
For the LORD your God has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons forever.5"For the LORD your God has chosen him and his sons from all your tribes, to stand and serve in the name of the LORD forever.
“So if a Levite comes from any of your gates, from where he dwells among all Israel, and comes with all the desire of his mind to the place which the LORD chooses,6"Now if a Levite comes from any of your towns throughout Israel where he resides, and comes whenever he desires to the place which the LORD chooses,
then he may serve in the name of the LORD his God as all his brethren the Levites do, who stand there before the LORD.7then he shall serve in the name of the LORD his God, like all his fellow Levites who stand there before the LORD.
They shall have equal portions to eat, besides what comes from the sale of his inheritance.8"They shall eat equal portions, except what they receive from the sale of their fathers' estates.
“When you come into the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations.9"When you enter the land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations.
There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,10"There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,
or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.11or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.
For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you.12"For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD; and because of these detestable things the LORD your God will drive them out before you.
You shall be blameless before the LORD your God.13"You shall be blameless before the LORD your God.
For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not appointed such for you.14"For those nations, which you shall dispossess, listen to those who practice witchcraft and to diviners, but as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you to do so.
“The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear,15"The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him.
according to all you desired of the LORD your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’16"This is according to all that you asked of the LORD your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, 'Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, let me not see this great fire anymore, or I will die.'
“And the LORD said to me: ‘What they have spoken is good.17"The LORD said to me, 'They have spoken well.
I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.18'I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.
And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.19It shall come about that whoever will not listen to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him.
But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’20'But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.'
And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’—21"You may say in your heart, 'How will we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?'
when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.22"When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.
