Psalm 59
NLT Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationNew International Version
Rescue me from my enemies, O God. Protect me from those who have come to destroy me.1For the director of music. To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." Of David. A miktam. When Saul had sent men to watch David's house in order to kill him. Deliver me from my enemies, O God; be my fortress against those who are attacking me.
Rescue me from these criminals; save me from these murderers.2Deliver me from evildoers and save me from those who are after my blood.
They have set an ambush for me. Fierce enemies are out there waiting, LORD, though I have not sinned or offended them.3See how they lie in wait for me! Fierce men conspire against me for no offense or sin of mine, LORD.
I have done nothing wrong, yet they prepare to attack me. Wake up! See what is happening and help me!4I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me. Arise to help me; look on my plight!
O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, wake up and punish those hostile nations. Show no mercy to wicked traitors. Interlude5You, LORD God Almighty, you who are the God of Israel, rouse yourself to punish all the nations; show no mercy to wicked traitors.
They come out at night, snarling like vicious dogs as they prowl the streets.6They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city.
Listen to the filth that comes from their mouths; their words cut like swords. “After all, who can hear us?” they sneer.7See what they spew from their mouths-- the words from their lips are sharp as swords, and they think, "Who can hear us?"
But LORD, you laugh at them. You scoff at all the hostile nations.8But you laugh at them, LORD; you scoff at all those nations.
You are my strength; I wait for you to rescue me, for you, O God, are my fortress.9You are my strength, I watch for you; you, God, are my fortress,
In his unfailing love, my God will stand with me. He will let me look down in triumph on all my enemies.10my God on whom I can rely. God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me.
Don’t kill them, for my people soon forget such lessons; stagger them with your power, and bring them to their knees, O Lord our shield.11But do not kill them, Lord our shield, or my people will forget. In your might uproot them and bring them down.
Because of the sinful things they say, because of the evil that is on their lips, let them be captured by their pride, their curses, and their lies.12For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies they utter,
Destroy them in your anger! Wipe them out completely! Then the whole world will know that God reigns in Israel. Interlude13consume them in your wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob.
My enemies come out at night, snarling like vicious dogs as they prowl the streets.14They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city.
They scavenge for food but go to sleep unsatisfied.15They wander about for food and howl if not satisfied.
But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress.16But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love.17You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely.
