1	Jacob resumed his journey and came to the land of the people of the east.	Then Jacob went on his journey and came to the land of the people of the east. 2	He looked and saw a well in the field, and near it lay three flocks of sheep, because the sheep were watered from this well. And a large stone covered the mouth of the well.	As he looked, he saw a well in the field, and behold, three flocks of sheep lying beside it, for out of that well the flocks were watered. The stone on the well’s mouth was large,	And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there <i>were</i> three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone <i>was</i> upon the well's mouth.	He looked, and saw a well in the field, and behold, three flocks of sheep were lying there beside it, because they watered the flocks from that well. Now the stone on the mouth of the well was large.	There he saw a well in the open country, with three flocks of sheep lying near it because the flocks were watered from that well. The stone over the mouth of the well was large.
3	When all the flocks had been gathered there, the shepherds would roll away the stone from the mouth of the well and water the sheep. Then they would return the stone to its place over the mouth of the well.	and when all the flocks were gathered there, the shepherds would roll the stone from the mouth of the well and water the sheep, and put the stone back in its place over the mouth of the well.	And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well's mouth in his place. 4	“My brothers,” Jacob asked the shepherds, “where are you from?” “We are from Haran,” they answered.	Jacob said to them, “My brothers, where do you come from?” They said, “We are from Haran.”	And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence <i>be</i> ye? And they said, Of Haran <i>are</i> we.	Jacob said to them, “My brothers, where are you from?” And they said, “We are from Haran.”	Jacob asked the shepherds, “My brothers, where are you from?” “We’re from Harran,” they replied.
5	“Do you know Laban the grandson of Nahor?” Jacob asked. “We know him,” they replied.	He said to them, “Do you know Laban the son of Nahor?” They said, “We know him.”	And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know <i>him</i>.	So he said to them, “Do you know Laban the son of Nahor?” And they said, “We know <i>him.</i>”	He said to them, “Do you know Laban, Nahor’s grandson?” “Yes, we know him,” they answered.
6	“Is he well?” Jacob inquired. “Yes,” they answered, “and here comes his daughter Rachel with his sheep.”	He said to them, “Is it well with him?” They said, “It is well; and see, Rachel his daughter is coming with the sheep!”	And he said unto them, <i>Is</i> he well? And they said, <i>He is</i> well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.	And he said to them, “Is it well with him?” And they said, “It is well, and here is his daughter Rachel coming with the sheep.”	Then Jacob asked them, “Is he well?” “Yes, he is,” they said, “and here comes his daughter Rachel with the sheep.”
7	“Look,” said Jacob, “it is still broad daylight; it is not yet time to gather the livestock. Water the sheep and take them back to pasture.”	He said, “Behold, it is still high day; it is not time for the livestock to be gathered together. Water the sheep and go, pasture them.”	And he said, Lo, <i>it is</i> yet high day, neither <i>is it</i> time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go <i>and</i> feed <i>them</i>.	Then he said, “Look, it is still high day; it is not time for the livestock to be gathered. Water the sheep, and go, pasture them.”	“Look,” he said, “the sun is still high; it is not time for the flocks to be gathered. Water the sheep and take them back to pasture.”
8	But they replied, “We cannot, until all the flocks have been gathered and the stone has been rolled away from the mouth of the well. Then we will water the sheep.”	But they said, “We cannot until all the flocks are gathered together and the stone is rolled from the mouth of the well; then we water the sheep.”	And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and <i>till</i> they roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.	But they said, “We cannot, until all the flocks are gathered, and they roll the stone from the mouth of the well; then we water the sheep.”	“We can’t,” they replied, “until all the flocks are gathered and the stone has been rolled away from the mouth of the well. Then we will water the sheep.”
9	While he was still speaking with them, Rachel arrived with her father’s sheep, for she was a shepherdess.	While he was still speaking with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she was a shepherdess.	And while he yet spake with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep: for she kept them. Now as soon as Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother’s brother, Jacob came near and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.	And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.	When Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of his mother’s brother Laban, and the sheep of his mother’s brother Laban, Jacob went up and rolled the stone from the mouth of the well, and watered the flock of his mother’s brother Laban. 12	He told Rachel that he was Rebekah’s son, a relative of her father, and she ran and told her father.	And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s kinsman, and that he was Rebekah’s son, and she ran and told her father.	And Jacob told Rachel that he <i>was</i> her father's brother, and that he <i>was</i> Rebekah's son: and she ran and told her father.	Jacob told Rachel that he was a relative of her father and that he was Rebekah’s son, and she ran and told her father.	He had told Rachel that he was a relative of her father and a son of Rebekah. So she ran and told her father.
13	When Laban heard the news about his sister’s son Jacob, he ran out to meet him. He embraced him and kissed him and brought him to his home, where Jacob told him all that had happened.	As soon as Laban heard the news about Jacob, his sister’s son, he ran to meet him and embraced him and kissed him and brought him to his house. Jacob told Laban all these things,	And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.	So when Laban heard the news about Jacob, his sister’s son, he ran to meet him, and embraced him and kissed him, and brought him to his house. 14	Then Laban declared, “You are indeed my own flesh and blood.” After Jacob had stayed with him a month,	and Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh!” And he stayed with him a month.	And Laban said to him, Surely thou <i>art</i> my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.	And Laban said to him, “You certainly are my bone and my flesh.” And he stayed with him a month.	Then Laban said to him, “You are my own flesh and blood.” After Jacob had stayed with him for a whole month,
15	Laban said to him, “Just because you are my relative, should you work for nothing? Tell me what your wages should be.”	Then Laban said to Jacob, “Because you are my kinsman, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what shall your wages be?”	And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou <i>art</i> my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what <i>shall</i> thy wages <i>be</i>?	Then Laban said to Jacob, “Because you are my relative, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what shall your wages be?”	Laban said to him, “Just because you are a relative of mine, should you work for me for nothing? Tell me what your wages should be.”
16	Now Laban had two daughters; the older was named Leah, and the younger was named Rachel.	Now Laban had two daughters. The name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.	And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder <i>was</i> Leah, and the name of the younger <i>was</i> Rachel.	Now Laban had two daughters; the name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.	Now Laban had two daughters; the name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.
17	Leah had weak eyes, but Rachel was shapely and beautiful.	Leah’s eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful in form and appearance.	Leah <i>was</i> tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured.	And Leah’s eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful in figure and appearance.	Leah had weak eyes, but Rachel had a lovely figure and was beautiful.
18	Since Jacob loved Rachel, he answered, “I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel.”	Jacob loved Rachel. And he said, “I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel.”	And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.	Now Jacob loved Rachel, so he said, “I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel.”	Jacob was in love with Rachel and said, “I’ll work for you seven years in return for your younger daughter Rachel.”
19	Laban replied, “Better that I give her to you than to another. Stay here with me.”	Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you than that I should give her to any other man; stay with me.”	And Laban said, <i>It is</i> better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.	Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you than to give her to another man; stay with me.”	Laban said, “It’s better that I give her to you than to some other man. Stay here with me.”
20	So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, yet it seemed but a few days because of his love for her.	So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed to him but a few days because of the love he had for her.	And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him <i>but</i> a few days, for the love he had to her.	So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed to him like <i>only</i> a few days because of his love for her.	So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her.
21	Finally Jacob said to Laban, “Grant me my wife, for my time is complete, and I want to sleep with her.”	Then Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife that I may go in to her, for my time is completed.”	And Jacob said unto Laban, Give <i>me</i> my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.	Then Jacob said to Laban, “Give <i>me</i> my wife, for my time is completed, that I may have relations with her.”	Then Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife. My time is completed, and I want to make love to her.”
22	So Laban invited all the men of that place and prepared a feast.	So Laban gathered together all the people of the place and made a feast.	And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.	So Laban gathered all the people of the place and held a feast.	So Laban brought together all the people of the place and gave a feast.
23	But when evening came, Laban took his daughter Leah and gave her to Jacob, and he slept with her.	But in the evening he took his daughter Leah and brought her to Jacob, and he went in to her.	And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her. 24	And Laban gave his servant girl Zilpah to his daughter Leah as her maidservant.	(Laban gave his female servant Zilpah to his daughter Leah to be her servant.)	And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid <i>for</i> an handmaid.	Laban also gave his female slave Zilpah to his daughter Leah as a slave.	And Laban gave his servant Zilpah to his daughter as her attendant.
25	When morning came, there was Leah! “What have you done to me?” Jacob said to Laban. “Wasn’t it for Rachel that I served you? Why have you deceived me?”	And in the morning, behold, it was Leah! And Jacob said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Did I not serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?”	And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it <i>was</i> Leah: and he said to Laban, What <i>is</i> this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?	So it came about in the morning that, behold, it was Leah! And he said to Laban, “What is this <i>that</i> you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served with you? Why then have you deceived me?”	When morning came, there was Leah! So Jacob said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? I served you for Rachel, didn’t I? Why have you deceived me?”
26	Laban replied, “It is not our custom here to give the younger daughter in marriage before the older.	Laban said, “It is not so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.	And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.	But Laban said, “It is not the practice in our place to marry off the younger before the firstborn.	Laban replied, “It is not our custom here to give the younger daughter in marriage before the older one.
27	Finish this week’s celebration, and we will give you the younger one in return for another seven years of work.”	Complete the week of this one, and we will give you the other also in return for serving me another seven years.”	Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.	Complete the week of this one, and we will give you the other also for the service which you shall serve with me, for another seven years.”	Finish this daughter’s bridal week; then we will give you the younger one also, in return for another seven years of work.”
28	And Jacob did just that. He finished the week’s celebration, and Laban gave him his daughter Rachel as his wife.	Jacob did so, and completed her week. Then Laban gave him his daughter Rachel to be his wife.	And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.	Jacob did so and completed her week, and he gave him his daughter Rachel as his wife.	And Jacob did so. He finished the week with Leah, and then Laban gave him his daughter Rachel to be his wife.
29	Laban also gave his servant girl Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as her maidservant.	(Laban gave his female servant Bilhah to his daughter Rachel to be her servant.)	And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her maid.	Laban also gave his female slave Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as her slave.	Laban gave his servant Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as her attendant.
30	Jacob slept with Rachel as well, and indeed, he loved Rachel more than Leah. So he worked for Laban another seven years.	So Jacob went in to Rachel also, and he loved Rachel more than Leah, and served Laban for another seven years.	And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.	So <i>Jacob</i> had relations with Rachel also, and indeed he loved Rachel more than Leah, and he served with Laban for another seven years.	Jacob made love to Rachel also, and his love for Rachel was greater than his love for Leah. And he worked for Laban another seven years.
31	When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.	When the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.	And when the LORD saw that Leah <i>was</i> hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel <i>was</i> barren.	Now the LORD saw that Leah was unloved, and He opened her womb, but Rachel was unable to have children.	When the LORD saw that Leah was not loved, he enabled her to conceive, but Rachel remained childless.
32	And Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and she named him Reuben, for she said, “The LORD has seen my affliction. Surely my husband will love me now.”	And Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben, for she said, “Because the LORD has looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me.”	And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.	Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and named him Reuben, for she said, “Because the LORD has seen my affliction; surely now my husband will love me.”	Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said, “It is because the LORD has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now.”
33	Again she conceived and gave birth to a son, and she said, “Because the LORD has heard that I am unloved, He has given me this son as well.” So she named him Simeon.	She conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Because the LORD has heard that I am hated, he has given me this son also.” And she called his name Simeon.	And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I <i>was</i> hated, he hath therefore given me this <i>son</i> also: and she called his name Simeon.	Then she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and said, “Because the LORD has heard that I am unloved, He has therefore given me this <i>son</i> also.” So she named him Simeon.	She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “Because the LORD heard that I am not loved, he gave me this one too.” So she named him Simeon.
34	Once again Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and she said, “Now at last my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” So he was named Levi.	Again she conceived and bore a son, and said, “Now this time my husband will be attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.	And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.	And she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and said, “Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore he was named Levi.	Again she conceived, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “Now at last my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” So he was named Levi.
35	And once more she conceived and gave birth to a son and said, “This time I will praise the LORD.” So she named him Judah. Then Leah stopped having children.	And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “This time I will praise the LORD.” Therefore she called his name Judah. Then she ceased bearing.	And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.	And she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and said, “This time I will praise the LORD.” Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped having children.	She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “This time I will praise the LORD.” So she named him Judah. Then she stopped having children.
