1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and laid siege upon it. 2 And the Lord gave into his hand Jehoiakim king of Judah, and some of the vessels of the house of God, and he brought them into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and he brought the vessels into the house of treasure of his god. 3 And the king said to Ashpenaz the chief of his eunuchs to bring in some of the sons of Israel, and some of the seed of the king and of the nobles, 4 young men in whom there was not any blemish, and of good appearance, and being skilled in all wisdom, and knowing knowledge, and understanding learning, and who had power in them to serve in the palace of the king and to teach them and literature and language of the Chaldeans.
