If any answer eclipses the Lord, an idol is surfacing. Scripture’s Clear Call • Exodus 20:3-5 — “You shall have no other gods before Me.” • 1 Corinthians 10:14 — “Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.” • Colossians 3:5 — Greed “is idolatry.” • Matthew 6:24 — “You cannot serve God and money.” • 1 John 5:21 — “Little children, keep yourselves from idols.” Practical Steps to Dismantle Modern Baals • Daily open the Word; let truth reveal rivals (Hebrews 4:12). • Confess specific idols and renounce them aloud (1 John 1:9). • Replace: schedule worship, service, and fellowship where idols once ruled. • Set boundaries—limit screens, spending, or conversations that feed the idol. • Practice generosity; giving loosens greed’s grip. • Keep Sabbath rhythms; resting declares trust in God, not productivity. • Invite accountability—trusted believers who will ask hard follow-up. Living Single-Hearted An undivided heart fuels joy, power, and witness (Psalm 86:11). As Jehu purged Israel, let us, by the Spirit, purge every competing affection so “in everything He might be preeminent” (Colossians 1:18). |
