1The leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem; and the rest of the people cast lots, to bring one tenth of the people to live in Jerusalem, the holy city, and the other nine-tenths were to stay in other towns. 2And the people blessed all the men who volunteered to live in Jerusalem. 3These are the provincial leaders who settled in Jerusalem; but most of the Israelites, priests, Levites, Nethinim, and the progeny of Solomon's servants continued to live in their own homes other towns of Judah, 4While certain descendants of Judah and Benjamin dwelt at Jerusalem. From the descendants of Judah were: Athaiah, son of Uzziah, son of Zechariah, son of Amariah, son of Shephatiah, son of Mahalalel, of the family of Perez; 5And Maaseiah, son of Baruch, son of Colhozeh, son of Hazaiah, son of Adaiah, son of Joiarib, son of Zechariah, of the family of Shelah. 6All the descendants of Perez who lived at Jerusalem were four hundred sixty-eight valiant men. 7And these are the descendants of Benjamin: Sallu, son of Meshullam, son of Joed, son of Pedaiah, son of Kolaiah, son of Maaseiah, son of Ithiel, son of Jeshaiah. 8And after him were Gabbai, Sallai - nine hundred twenty-eight. 9And Joel, son of Zichri, was their overseer; and Judah, son of Hassenuah, was second over the city. 10Of the priests: Jedaiah, son of Joiarib, Jachin, 11Seraiah, son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, who was the leader of the Temple of God. 12And their brethren who performed the work of the Temple were eight hundred twenty-two; and Adaiah, son of Jeroham, son of Pelaliah, son of Amzi, son of Zechariah, son of Pashhur, son of Malchiah, 13And his brethren, heads of the fathers' houses, two hundred forty-two; and Amashai, son of Azareel, son of Ahsai, son of Meshillemoth, son of Immer, 14And their brethren, mighty men of valor, a hundred twenty-eight; and their overseer was Zabdiel, son of Haggedolim. 15Of the Levites were: Shemaiah, son of Hashub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, son of Bunni; 16And Shabbethai and Jozabad, of the chiefs of the Levites, had the oversight of the outside business of the Temple of God. 17And Mattaniah, son of Micha, son of Zabdi, son of Asaph, was the leader to begin the thanksgiving in prayer; and Bakbukiah, the second among his brothers, and Abda, son of Shammua, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun. 18All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred eighty-four. 19The gatekeepers were Akkub, Talmon; and their associates - one hundred seventy-two. 20And the rest of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, lived in the other towns of Judah, each in his inheritance. 21But the Nethinim dwelt in Ophel; and Ziha and Gishpa were over them. 22The overseer of the Levites at Jerusalem was Uzzi, son of Bani, son of Hashabiah, son of Mattaniah, son of Micha, of the sons of Asaph, the singers, were over the business of the Temple of God. 23For it was the king's (Artaxerxes’) commandment concerning them, that a certain portion should be for the singers, as every day required. 24And Pethahiah, son of Meshezabel, of the descendants of Zerah, son of Judah, served as the king's advisor in all matters concerning the people. 25And as for the villages, with their fields, some of the descendants of Judah dwelt at Kiriath-arba and its villages, and at Dibon and its villages, at Jekabzeel and its villages, 26At Jeshua, at Moladah, at Beth-pelet, 27At Hazar-shual, at Beersheba and its villages, 28A Ziklag, at Meconah and its villages, 29A En-rimmon, at Zorah, at Jarmuth, 30Zanoah, Adullam and their villages, at Lachish and its fields, at Azekah and its villages. And so they dwelt from Beersheba to the valley of Hinnom. 31The descendants of Benjamin also dwelt from Geba to Michmash, Aija, and Bethel and their villages, 32And at Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah, 33Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim, 34Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat, 35Lod, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen. 36Some of the divisions of Levites of Judah settled in Benjamin.
