Zion's Glory
Isaiah 60:2-3
For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise on you…

The prophet here reverts for a moment to the previous condition of the world, in order to describe, with more effect, the glorious change to be produced. He is not, therefore, to be understood as saying that Zion shall be glorious because, while the nations are in darkness, she is to enjoy exclusive light, but because the light imparted to her first shall draw the nations to her.

(J. A. Alexander.)
