Acts 16:13
And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down…


I. THE CIRCUMSTANCES.

1. It was upon the Sabbath day.

2. It was by the river side. A river may remind us of the Spirit, by whose influence we are enabled to drink of the "streams which make glad the city of God."

3. It was a place where prayer was accustomed to be made.

II. THE POSITION. "They sat down."

III. THE OPERATION (ver. 14).

(1) Before conversion.

(a)  Conviction.

(b)  Perception.
