A Mistaken Here
Luke 24:13-35
And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about three score furlongs.…


I. THEIR PREVIOUS CONFIDENCE.

1. The object of that confidence. They had formed defective views as to the

(1)  needful atonement, and

(2)  attendant benefits.

2. The ground of that confidence. In part substantially and in part visionary. They were misled by prevailing misconceptions.

II. THEIR PRESENT DESPONDENCY.

1. Its extent. Heartfelt dejection.

2. The occasion of it (see ver. 20).Lessons:

1. To shame our low distrust. The things we fear are for us (Romans 8:28).

2. To confirm our highest hope. Sufferings, death, and resurrection of Jesus established.
