The Dedication of the Wail
Nehemiah 12:27-43
And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem…

In this dedication —

I. IT WAS DESIGNED TO OFFER THANKS TO GOD FOR THE COMPLETION OF A GOOD WORK.

II. IT WAS INTENDED TO SET APART THE HOLY CITY FOR ITS SACRED ENDS.

III. IT WAS DESIRED TO INVOKE THE DIVINE BLESSING AND GUARDIANSHIP ON THE CITY OF GOD.

IV. IT IS BEAUTIFUL TO OBSERVE HOW FULLY THE DOMESTIC AFFECTIONS ARE CHERISHED AND DISPLAYED. "The wives also and the children rejoiced."

(W. Ritchie.)
