Num 14:21 Yet as surely as I live and as surely as the whole earth… those in the ruins will fall by the sword, Those remaining among the shattered towns and buildings of Judah would not find safety in the remnants of their former life. Babylon’s devastation of Jerusalem and its surrounding cities had not removed God’s judgment from the land. Continued rebellion would bring further violence upon those who believed they could possess the land without obeying the God who gave it. Wild animals were among the covenant curses God had warned Israel about for persistent disobedience.
