God’s Righteous Judgment

1Wherefore, you are without excuse, O man, every one who judges; for wherein you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. 2Now we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those practicing such things. 3And do you reckon this, O man, who judge those who practice such things, and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God? 4Or, do you despise the riches of His kindness and forbearance and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God is leading you to repentance? 5but, after your hardness and impenitent heart, you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and of the revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6Who will render to every man according to his works; 7to those who, by patience in well-doing, are seeking for glory and honor and incorruption, eternal life; 8but to those who are contentious, and obey not the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there shall be wrath and indignation, 9tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that works evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek; 10but glory and honor and peace to every one who works good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek: 11for there is no respect of persons with God;

12for as many as sinned without law shall also perish without law; and as many as sinned under law shall be judged by law; 13for not the hearers of law are righteous before God, but the doers shall be justified; 14(for, when gentiles who have no law do by nature the things of the law, these, having no law, are a law to themselves; 15who, indeed, show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience testifying with it, and between one another their thoughts accusing or even excusing them;) 16in the day when God will judge the secrets of men, according to my Gospel, through Jesus Christ,

The Jews and the Law

17But, if you are called a Jew, and are resting upon the law, and are boasting in God, 18and understand His will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law, 19and have become confident that you are a guide of the blind, a light to those in darkness, 20an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having in the law the form of knowledge and of the truth; 21you, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that men should not steal, do you steal? 22You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23You who boast in law, do you dishonor God through your transgression of the law? 24For the name of God is blasphemed among the gentiles, because of you, as it has been written.

25For circumcision, indeed, profits, if you do the law; but, if you are transgressors of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. 26If, therefore, the uncircumcision keep the ordinances of the law, shall not his uncircumcision he reckoned for circumcision? 27And shall not the uncircumcision that is by nature, if it fulfills the law, judge you, with the letter and circumcision, to be a transgressor of the law? 28For he is not a Jew, who is one outwardly; nor is that circumcision, which is outward in flesh; 29but he is a Jew, who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in spirit, not in letter, whose praise is not of men, but of God.
