The Place of Sacrifice

1And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, 2“Speak to Aaron and to his sons and to all the sons of Israel, and you shall say to them: This is the word that YHWH has commanded, saying, 3‘Any man of the house of Israel who slaughters an ox or lamb or goat in the camp, or who slaughters it outside of the camp, 4and does not bring it to the door of the Tent of Meeting to bring it near as an offering to YHWH before the face of the tabernacle of YHWH—blood shall be reckoned to that man; he has shed blood, and that man shall be cut off from among his people,

5in order that the sons of Israel bring their sacrifices, which they are sacrificing upon the face of the field, and bring them to YHWH, to the door of the Tent of Meeting, to the priest, and sacrifice them as sacrifices of peace offerings to YHWH. 6And the priest shall sprinkle the blood on the altar of YHWH at the door of the Tent of Meeting, and he shall burn the fat for a pleasing aroma to YHWH.

7And they shall no longer sacrifice their sacrifices to the goat demons after whom they have prostituted themselves. This shall be an everlasting statute for them throughout their generations.’

8And you shall say to them: Any man from the house of Israel, and from the sojourners who sojourn in their midst, who brings near a burnt offering or a sacrifice 9and does not bring it to the door of the Tent of Meeting to do it to YHWH—then that man shall be cut off from his people.

Laws against Eating Blood

10And any man from the house of Israel, and from the sojourner who is sojourning in their midst, who eats any blood, I will set My face against the soul who is eating the blood, and I will cut him off from among his people. 11For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you⁺ upon the altar to make atonement upon your⁺ souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement by the soul. 12Upon thus I said to the sons of Israel, ‘Not any soul among you⁺ shall eat blood, and the sojourner who is sojourning in your⁺ midst shall not eat blood.’

13And any man, from the sons of Israel and from the sojourner who is sojourning in your⁺ midst, who hunts living game or bird that may be eaten, then he shall pour out its blood, and he shall cover it with dust. 14For the soul of all flesh is its blood; in its soul it is. And I said to the sons of Israel, ‘Blood of any flesh you⁺ shall not eat, for the soul of all flesh is its blood; all who eat it shall be cut off.’

15And any soul who eats a carcass or torn thing, among the native and among the sojourner, he shall both wash his clothes, and he shall bathe in the water, and he shall be unclean until the evening; then he shall be clean. 16And if he does not wash them and does not bathe his flesh, then he shall bear his iniquity.”
