Yahweh Has Chosen Zion

1A Song of the Ascents.

O YHWH, 1 Remember for David,

all his afflictions,

2how he swore to YHWH

and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:

3“If I enter into the tent of my house,

or if go up on the couch of my bed,

4I will not give sleep to my eyes,

and slumber to my eyelids,

5until I find a place for YHWH,

a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.

6Behold, we have heard of it in Ephrathah,

we have found it in the fields of Jaar.

7Let us go into His dwelling place;

let us worship at the stool of His feet!

8Arise, O YHWH, to Your resting place—

You and the ark of Your strength!

9May Your priests be clothed with righteousness,

and Your holy ones shout for joy!

10For the sake of David Your servant,

do not turn away the face of Your anointed one.

11YHWH has sworn in truth of David;

He will not turn back from it:

“I will set one from the fruit of your belly

on the throne of yours.

12If your sons will keep My covenant

and My testimonies that I teach them,

their sons also, forever and ever,

will sit on the throne of yours.”

13For YHWH has set His choice on Zion;

He has desired it as a seat for Himself:

14“This is My resting place forever and ever;

here I will sit, for I have desired it.

15I will abundantly bless her provision,

and her needy ones I will satisfy with bread;

16and her priests I will clothe with salvation,

and her godly ones will shout in joy.

17There I will make to sprout a horn for David;

I will arrange a lamp for My anointed one.

18I will clothe his enemies with shame,

and upon him his diadem will shine.”
