Praise Yahweh, O My Soul

1Hallelu YAH!

Praise, O my soul, YHWH!

2I will praise YHWH during my life;

I will sing praises to my God while I exist.

3Do not put your⁺ trust in princes—in a son of man,

for in him is no deliverance.

4His spirit goes forth, he returns to his earth;

on that day his plans perish.

5Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob;

his hope is upon YHWH his God,

6maker of the heavens and the earth,

the sea and all that is in them,

the One guarding truth forever,

7doing justice for the oppressed,

giving bread to the hungry.

YHWH is the One freeing those who are bound;

8YHWH opens the eyes of the blind;

YHWH raises up those bent down;

YHWH loves the righteous ones;

9YHWH guards the sojourners;

the fatherless and widow He sustains,

and the way of the wicked He overturns.

10YHWH reigns forever—

Your God, O Zion, from generation and generation!

Praise YAH!

Footnotes:

1 Hallelu YAH means Praise YHWH; also in verse 10
