Psalm 147

It Is Good to Sing Praises

1Hallelu YAH!

For it is good to praise our God—

how pleasant and beautiful is praise!

2The One building up Jerusalem is YHWH,

and He gathers together the exiles of Israel,

3giving healing to the broken of heart,

and binding up their wounds,

4Appointing the number of the stars—

for all of them He calls by names.

5Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;

of His understanding there is no numbering!

6YHWH restores the humble;

He casts down the wicked to the ground.

7Sing to YHWH with thanksgiving;

make music to our God on the harp,

8to the One covering the heavens with clouds,

the One preparing rain for the earth,

the One making grass sprout on the hills,

9giving to the beast its food,

and to the young of the ravens that call out.

10He does not delight in the strength of the horse,

and not in the legs of the man does He take pleasure.

11YHWH is pleased with those who fear him,

those hoping in His loving devotion.

12Exalt, O Jerusalem, YHWH;

praise your God, O Zion!

13For He has strengthened the bars of your gates;

He has blessed your sons within you.

14The One making peace for your border,

He satisfies you with the fat of wheat.

15The One sending forth His utterance to the earth,

how swiftly His word runs!

16The One giving snow like wool,

He scatters the frost like ashes,

17casting forth His hail like morsels;

before the face of His cold, who can stand?

18He sends out His word and melts them;

His wind he makes blow, and the waters flow.

19He declares His words to Jacob,

His statutes and His judgments to Israel.

20He has not done so for any nation;

and His judgments they have not known.

Praise YAH!

Footnotes:

1 Hallelu YAH means Praise YHWH; also in verse 20
17 Or like crumbs or like pebbles
20 MT; DSS and LXX His judgments He has not made known to them
