Wisdom 17:5
Good News Translation
No fire had power to give them light, and the brilliant stars could do nothing to relieve that deathly darkness.

Nothing was shining through to them except a dreadful, self-kindled fire, and in terror they deemed the things that they saw to be worse than that unseen appearance.

On that miserable night, the darkness was so thick that neither flaming lamps nor bright stars could be seen.
